A few months later, Tommy and Mia were at work. "Hey, what do you think about France," Mia asked, out of the blue. "What do you mean?" "Have you ever been there?" "No." "I would absolutely just love to visit sometime." "Really? What part?" "Cassis." "Really? Not one of the big cities like Paris or Versailles? "Nope. If I could visit any place in the world, it would be Cassis. What about you?" "I'm not sure." "Come on, you could visit anywhere in the world. Where would it be?" "Italy." "What part?" "I don't know. Why did we all of a sudden start talking about traveling?" "Because it just crossed my mind." "Hmm. Oh! Do you think maybe after work, we could talk?" "We could talk right now," Mia suggested. "I think it's best we talk after work." "...Ok?"
After work, Tommy and Mia were walking and talking. "I love the wintertime, it's kinda chilly and all, but I love it," Mia said with a smile, "So what did you want to talk about?" "Well, I've been thinking about it a lot and you know how you said you'd wait for me as long as I need?" "Yeah," Mia nodded, a bit confused. "Well, I'm not sure how to say this, but-" "You found someone else," Mia guessed, trying not to sound sad. "No, no, nothing like that. Well, kinda. It's complicated, you see, there's this girl I think I've really fallen for these past few months, but I don't know how to tell her." "Oh. That's nice. I'm really happy for you," Mia said, trying not to cry. Tommy chuckled. "What's so funny? I'm over here, willing myself not to cry and you're laughing." "Because the girl I love is you." Tommy's words hung in the air between them for a moment, as if waiting for Mia's reaction. Her heart was beating faster than she could ever remember and her mind was racing with a million thoughts at once. She looked up at Tommy, who was now looking at her with a mixture of hope and fear in his eyes. She could see how much this meant to him. "Are you serious? Is this a dream?" "I'm serious, and I really hope it's not a dream." Mia smiled, "This is the best day of my life." "I'm sorry for taking so long, I should've said something sooner." Mia smiled, "I understand, but you don't have to worry about that. You know I feel the same way." Mia felt her heart skip a beat when Tommy took her hand in his and looked into her dark brown eyes. "Mia, will you be my girlfriend?" Mia felt tears welling up in her eyes, "Yes, Tommy, I will. I would love to be your girlfriend." Tommy let out a 'whoop' of joy and swept Mia into a hug. Mia felt a surge of happiness wash over her as she hugged him back. They both knew this was the start of something amazing.
