"He called me a freak, nerd, a know it all, and a bookworm. In almost one sentence." Cassie said annoyedly to Remus as they sat in charms together. She'd awkwardly sat through her break alone, transfiguration alone, and lunch alone as well, so she was thankful she had charms with Remus so she could talk to someone.
"It's the first day and he's already pissing people off." Remus mumbled. "I'm sorry." He looked at Cassie, "He's an asshole. You're unfortunately gonna have to get used to it."
Cassie nodded, "I know." She whispered softly.
Professor Flitwick was on the usual first day teacher rant, what books everyone needed, what they'd be covering in class that year, everything.
"The only materials required in class this year," Flitwicks shrill voice rang, "are your wands, the required books, and quills with parchment for notes."
The class seemed to sigh in relief. Charms was seemingly the only class where there were barely any physical materials required.
"So, what's your wand type?" Remus asked Cassie curiously.
"Applewood, 11 1/2 inches long, slightly flexible, veela hair core. What about yours?" Cassie said, twirling her wand on her fingers.
"Mines cypress wood, unicorn hair core, 10 1/4 inches long, pliable." Remus replied.
"Unicorn hair. How common." Cassie teased.
Remus laughed, "Is Miss Cassie Carlyle teasing me? I was unaware you had such a sense of humor."
"Just because I'm quiet doesn't mean I can't be funny." Cassie smiled softly.
Remus and Cassie smiled at each other and watched Professor Flitwick perform one of the spells they were going to learn that year, the growth charm. He took a simple feather and cast the charm, enlarging, then reversing the charm and putting it back to its normal size.
Cassie and Remus giggled as a couple kids sitting in the front row sneezed from the feather tickling their noses.
After class, Remus and Cassie started walking. "I'm walk you to DADA since I've got my break right now." Remus told Cassie.
Cassie smiled and nodded.
They were walking in a quiet, peaceful manner when James came up behind them and wrapped an arm around each of them. "Ah, some of my favorite people. Where's everyone headed?"
Cassie shrugged his arm off her shoulder and Remus did the same.
"I've got my break right now." Remus said.
"I've got DADA."
James grinned, "I've got DADA too!"
Cassie internally groaned and Remus looked over at James, pulling him aside. "I'll catch up in a minute Cass, you keep going." Remus told her. She nodded and walked alone.
Remus grabbed James by the ear and pulled him closer, "You hurt Cassie, and I rip this ear off Prongs. I'm serious, she is the sweetest, smartest and nicest girl I've ever met. Don't fuck with her. Pick a different girl to mess with."
James winced when Remus pinched his ear harder, and groaned, "Ok, ok. I'll pick someone else."
"Good." Remus said, letting go and jogging to catch up with Cassie. "Hi." He said as he met back up with her.
"What was that about?" Cassie asked.
"Ah- nothing. I was just asking James if he was... trying out for the quidditch team this year. He is, obviously."
"Hogwarts has quidditch?" Cassie asked curiously.
"Oh yeah, everyone's crazy about it. Sirius and James have been on the team since first year. Sirius is a beater and James is a chaser, but he's trying out for keeper and hoping to be captain this year."
