I woke up, with bruises on my legs, my head pounding from his huge hands. I would look outside my window, but I don't have one. Andrew refuses to give me the luxury of the sunshine. I haven't been outside of this cold dark room for a year. in this prison with only a bed, computer, table and door, which is locked from the outside. I would try to contact people for help on my computer but it doesn't work. At 8:00am Andrew brings me breakfast, nothing but a bowl of stale coco pops. At 1:00pm He brings me lunch, a mouldy sandwich with some lettuce. And finally at 7:00pm he brings me dinner, leftovers from Andrews dinner which is usually some fries from McDonalds. I wonder what it's like to be one of those teenagers who get everything they want. Teenagers can only imagine what it's like to be me. Most step fathers try to get closer to their step daughters, with my mum dead and my dad taken away from me, because of the murder of my mother. I know my dad didn't murder her. She left a suicide letter. it said
To Reigan,
I am sorry but I could not live with a life like this. I had terminal cancer, I didn't want you to see me die. you will never find my body, and I'm glad. you and dad are going to be okay. Do not tell dad about this note. Keep it hidden but do not throw this away. Please don't. I love you Reigan you have your whole life ahead of you. Andrew will look after you.
Love Mum,
And I still have the note, in a box under my bed. Andrew hasn't seen it. Andrew wasn't always like this, he used to be nice, take me places. It started after he was introduced to drugs. Heroin, ice things like that. Now whenever I want to go to the bathroom I have to press a button on the left side of the door. so he can come and unlock it. he has to watch me. or he thinks I might run.
I have tried sneaking out. but Andrew would catch me and hit me. I am 16 now and I still don't know my times tables. I miss my friends. Marcus, Lily, Amelia and my boyfriend Max. I was forced to tell them I was moving. I went to Baker Street high school New Jersey. it was a great school, I was a straight A student. I was the teachers pet. but now the teachers wouldn't even remember my name. I pray every single night that one day someone will walk through that rusty old door and say "don't worry, your safe now." I feel a cold breeze as Andrew opens the door, its dinner time. He says to me "EAT!" then he closes the door. this goes on every single day, except for one night. Andrew once again opens the door and gives me dinner. As he is about to close the door, he hears the doorbell ring. it's one of his friends, Harrison. he quickly goes to the front door at the end of the hallway and invites him in. They sit on the couch and watch the footy show. He has forgotten about me. So I I make a run for it. I get my box under my bed and I quickly open the front door and run outside. I see grass and trees. I feel so excited. I feel the cold wet grass in between my toes. I've finally taken my first step to freedom.
