Chapter 7

Dereks POV

As I walked back up the stairs to my office I couldn’t help but think about what that mut told me downstairs. He was sent to kill Michelle? That’s doesn’t make any sense she was human, she knew nothing about werewolves.

I pushed the door open and the bookshelves moved apart to make room for me to walk through them. I looked up to find Carol sitting on the couch looking out the window. She and I grew up together since we were little. At first everyone thought we were going to be mates, but something inside both of us told us that we were just really good friends.

“Carol, what are you doing here?”

She sighed “You promise not to get mad at me for what I’m about to say?” her eyes met mine. I nodded my head “I can’t believe that weak human is your mate, and not only that, but someone tried to kill her, so that makes me think she’s not telling us something.”

I growled at her comment, but I promised not to get mad. I walked over to my desk and opened up a new windows browser tab. “I understand what you’re saying Carol, but you’ve seen Michelle, she’s nothing but a human.” I typed in the search bar Michelle Rodriguez and up came a bunch of articles on her father and one that caught my eye. I clicked on the link and up came an old article on Michelle’s mom death. “Here’s something interesting her mother was murdered while Michelle was in the house. They didn’t go after her which is strange considering the circumstances.”

Carol turned around and faced me. “What do you mean?”

I scrolled down the rest of the article. “Well from what it seems nothing was taken.” I leaned back on my chair and looked at the screen. Why would someone kill her mother, but not go up and kill any witnesses I mean I’m glad that they didn’t kill her or I would be mate less but still something wasn’t adding up. “I’m probably going to have to get one of the guys on this, and see if they can get access to the police reports.”

I looked over at Carol to see what she had to say because she always had something smart to add. She was looking down at her nails like they were the most fascinating thing she had ever laid her eyes on. “I know your staring at me” she picked at her dark purple nail polish “and your probably waiting to see what I have to say, so I’m just going to come out and say it then since you’re going to ask me anyways” she looked up at me “but why not ask her what happened that night? Why go through all the trouble digging when she’s lying on your bed as we speak?”

Carol had a point, but it wasn’t like I could march into my room and demand answers. She didn’t know about us and as far as she’s concerned it was just a freak car accident nothing more. “Unless you want to tell her about werewolves and such I suggest you think of something else smart one” I smirked at her and Carol rolled her eyes. “Look I don’t like knowing there’s someone out there someone supernatural trying to kill innocent humans for no reason as the next person but this isn’t about that. Once we all found out that our soon to be Luna was a target we all became on high alert, but what’s confusing us all is why a human?”

My smirk slowly faded “Yes that is the million dollar question isn’t it?” I got up from my car and walked toward the door. “I’m going to go back to my room and “get to know” her better if anything new or important comes up please let me know other than that I don’t want to be disturb.”

Michelle’s POV

After Derek left there wasn’t much for me to do. My only options were to watch some TV, go to sleep or even though I knew I would get in trouble for doing this explore the house. I decided to play it safe and turn the TV back on after finishing watching another novella. Something inside my body was itching me to get up and move. After carefully removing the wires and tubes running in my veins I got out of bed. At first it was like I was learning to walk all over again. I would take things slow at first like walk over to the chair beside the bed. Then walk towards the closet door and then back to the bed. Eventually I got the hang of it. On my last trip around the room I reached under the covers for the phone Derek gave me and placed it in pocket of the sweats I was wearing.
