I woke up the next morning to my roommate, Tayla-Rose, shaking me awake.
"Phoenix!" she whisper-shouted into my left ear.
I sat up looking confused.
"Huh?" I mumbled, still half asleep.
"Seriously, you're going to be, like, SO late to your class!"
I squinted at Tayla's face hovering over my own, with her long, straight bleached-blonde hair, dangling into my eyes. She was already completely dressed, with makeup perfectly applied, with keys and phone in hand. I groaned at her and flicked the hair away from my eyes. I stared at her face, waiting for it to move, but she stayed hovering over me.
"Could you move?" I asked sharply. "Do you even know the definition of 'personal space'?"
She stood up straight and stared at me with a smirk set on her flawless, Barbie doll face.
I rolled over and looked at my clock. It blinked with neon green - 8:36AM.
"Oh, God," I groaned. "Really? I just had to sleep in... again."
I threw my bed covers off of me and I ran into our shared bathroom to change out of my pyjamas.
Black turtleneck crop top, black stockings, red plaid skirt, black leather jacket, my chunky gold chain, my black Docs, and my favourite sunglasses. I really didn't have time to put makeup on, but I decided I was going to wear it anyway. If I ever went anywhere not looking the way I wanted to, I would get really self-conscious and hate leaving my room.
I pulled my copious amounts of makeup from my bathroom drawer, most of it dark in colour – just the way I like it. Since I take such pride in my appearance, most of my makeup is the best you can get. MAC is my all-time favourite makeup brand and it's just perfect for my look, which is basically what you would call 'grunge'. A lot of their colours are quite dark, which is exactly what I look for in makeup. I started applying makeup, and I checked the clock again. 8:43AM.
Aaaaaand I'm late again, I thought. Doesn't matter.
My face was quite pale, so I couldn't exactly pull off too much foundation, so I just put on some light concealer, powder, and my usual dark eye makeup and wine-red lipstick. I still had bedhead, but I certainly didn't have time to re-straighten it. I gave it a few flicks to make it look less like bedhead and more textured, and it turned out perfect.
I smile at the reflection l saw in the mirror. "Aw, yeah," I grin to myself. I love the way I look, but only when it fits my style exactly.
I quickly grabbed my phone, wallet, room keys and notepad and went off to my Psychology class.
