"Mum, I'm home" I said as I removed my shoes and wore my slippers.

"We're have you been young lady" she shouted from the kitchen.

"Somewhere and everywhere"She gave me 'the look' "don't worry about it okay. What's cooking" I said changing the subject.

"Do not change the subject. Where have you been? "She asked in a more authoritative tone.

"Mom, I'm seventeen for Pete's sake. I can go wherever I want " I'm actually starting to get annoyed at this point.

"You still live under my roof and you will answer me when I ask you questions " she said, her voice getting louder with each word.

"Where's dad? Isn't he home yet?"

"Oh dear Lord, I miss when she was a young and innocent child. Now she's young and........not innocent "

"Mom don't worry about me, just trust me. Ok?" I said as I drank water.

"I know you've been going to see a wolf"I chocked on the water I was drinking. How did she find out?

"That's absurd mum" I came up with a lie, hoping she'd buy it
"I've just been having to do extra lessons at school. You know it's my final year. Cut me some slack"

"Nice try honey, but I'm not buying it. You should be happy your dad doesn't know about this" I know right. I love my dad, and he loves me more so being in the company of a wolf is completely prohibited. There's no use lying anymore.

"But we're maces. And I finally made a friend that's not-"

"Wolves don't believe there are still good vampires out there. Do you want to die?"

"Well if you put it that way, then no, but-"

"Exactly, no. So stop this nonsense " she said, in finality, hinting that she didn't want any more arguments.

"Fine but, I'll say goodbye first. This is non-negotiable "she let out a sigh.

"Don't say I didn't warn you hazel"

"Yay! So that's a yes. I promise I'll be back before dad comes home" I gave her a kiss on her cheek and ran straight out.

"Hazel! Hazel!" She shouted behind me.

"I'll be back mom, promise "I shouted back "love you!"

I ran like hell and only stopped when I almost got to our usual meeting place. Thankfully, she hadn't left.

"Anna" I shouted. She looked at me with a sad look and asked me to keep quiet by placing her index finger on her lips. I saw some people approach her. I hid behind some bushes and listened to their conversation. It's a vampire thing to hear from far distances.

"You said you would be able to get more information on the Greymond pack" A large man said.

"Yes I did and I need more time. They recently figured out the triants plans and are going to-" she stopped when another man raised his hand. He seemed very powerful and authoritative. His aura was so strong and you could tell he had a lot of pent up hatred. Also, he's a wolf.
He can't be from another pack because the man close to him is a vampire (a triant)

"Yes boss" boss? What is her deal with these people

"The vampire girl?"he asked her. I couldn't help but think he was talking about me.

"I-I was going to..." she was cut off by the large, less powerful man.

"We planned to use her as bait boss. To blame our plans on her once they were executed" he said
Did Anna really do that? She only made friends with me to use me. We called each other best friends. It's funny how a wolf is betraying her own pack.

"You have proven to be nothing but useless to me."

"Please, I just need more time. I promise I'll-"

"Kill her" what? No! He can't!

"I'm sorry haz" was all she whispered before gunshots were heard. I wasn't prepared for the noise and the pain it caused which made me dizzy. It was enough time for the bad guys to get away. When I regained my composure I didn't waste any time to get to her.

"Anna"I said as I got to her. All my anger had been replaced with worry. She had a silver mane bullet in her. Poisons are basically my specialty.

**Silver mane is a highly poisonous substance which has no cure. Once a wolf is shot or injected with it, there's no going back. It affects vampires but doesn't cause death, and has no effect on humans**

"Anna "I knelt beside her, placing her head on my thighs.

"Haz, I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have. I just didn't want- he's not-" she said as tears fell from her eyes.

"What Anna. Speak up" I said.

"I'm sorry haz, I didn't mean to"

"I forgive you. Now mindlink your mate Anna"

"I already did and he'll be here soon"she managed to say.
"Go away hazel"

"I can't, I can't possibly leave you here" I really don't want to.

"If you're caught here, we'll both be dead okay. They'll think you killed me. At least one of us should survive. Right?" She put on a fake smile.

"You're my best friend "

"You're my best friend " she said and cried in pain. "Go now haz please. He's almost here" she said, breathing heavily
"It's time for me to go too. Survive haz, no matter what" she said before she let go.

For the first time in many years, I cried my eyes out.
"Anna, please come back. I forgive you, please-"

I was interrupted by the sound of a branch breaking. Her mate.
I cut a piece of my cloth and covered my face with it up to my nose, leaving only my eyes to be seen.
I rubbed some grasses on me so he wouldn't be able to track my scent. He got here faster than I thought he would. He must love her.

"Anna" he shouted as he picked her up.

I was about to turn when he made eye contact with me. His eyes, their beautiful.
He made a growl and put Anna down. He took the stance of a predator studying its prey before attacking. I knew this was the perfect time to run.

"I didn't kill her "was the only thing my stupid brain thought to say before I left. Surprisingly, he didn't chase me. Why??

When I got home, I refused to explain to my mother why I was back earlier than expected, what an irony, and why there was so much blood on me. I couldn't tell her what I saw.

Only one thing was on my mind.

ANNA.
