Beep. Beep. Beep. Your alarm clock went off at 6:30 AM, the typical time you had always gotten up for work at. You worked at a shitty retail place nearby, running the half-broken cashier and making hardly enough money to pay your overpriced rent.
You got up, got yourself situated, and headed off to work without any breakfast. This was a habit at this point. You didn't intend to eat less than you were supposed to, you were simply used to it. Heading down the road, you watched as a toddler's ice cream cone fell upside down on the pavement of the sidewalk. You continued to walk, ignoring it. Why would it be a big deal anyways?
Everything comes to an end, whether it's something big or something small, and there's all sorts of ways things can end. You used this fact to comfort yourself often. You had grown up in an abusive household, and this phrase was one of the few things that got you through, whether it meant the abuse would come to and end or your life would come to an end.
You arrived and pushed the creaky, heavy doors open. The place smelled like rats and bleach cleaner. You groaned and headed down into the employees room, putting on your uniform. It was just a hat.
Your friend, Stacy, who had been working the cashier last, waited for you to take over for her. As you walked over, you noticed that she seemed off. Her eyes were dull, she was shaky, and she looked... done.
"Hey Stacy, you can go now- I'm ready to take over." You walked over and took her place. She gave a ghostly nod, slinking away into the employees room.
Work was tiresome and boring. You often found yourself spacing out during work as your body did all of the tasks on autopilot. Here and there, you would look down at yourself and come back to reality. Either that brought you back, or an angry customer.
Your arms were littered in scars. Bits of your thighs too. You were at least thankful nobody had ever mentioned them at work. You didn't like it when strangers brought them up, it made you uneasy.

You had been at work for about 4 hours now. Your hands hurt, and your eyes did a bit as well. You needed a break, so you slipped away into the employees room when there weren't any customers in sight.
"Stacy, ya think you could cover for me while I take a quick break?" You'd ask, looking around for her. She was nowhere to be found. You rolled your eyes and walked into the storage room. "Stacy? Helloooo?"
You stopped moving when you saw Stacy in the storage room. You also saw a thick rope, a kicked away stool, and a knife. You felt numb. Sick. Her eyes were glossed over, lifeless. Her limbs were limp, and her mouth hung open.
You left. Your head was spinning as you exited the employees room. Not even bothering to answer a customer's question on where the condoms and sodas were in the store, you walked out of the store. Your hat fell off, but you didn't notice. Your legs shook with every quick and rushed step. Your eyes burned with tears.
You didn't know where you were going. Everything was going fast. Too fast. It was raining now. You wanted to go home and sleep. That sounded nice.
The ground felt rougher than it did a moment ago. The city seemed louder. The lights seemed brighter. They were getting brighter by the second. The noise grew, you swear you heard a honk of a car.
You flinched and turned, face to face with the front of a speeding car. Everything slowed for a second. There was no avoiding it, this was your end. As the car hit, you were sent flying back as your spine made a sickening crack. Everything blacked out after that moment, but you were okay with that.

Everything ends eventually.
