"Come on Grace hurry up !! We're gonna need to hurry if we wanna make it to the beach before the sun sets"
"Coming Mom !!" she shouted as she ran down the stairs with her sand toys all dressed up in a cute little bathing suit with some short over top of them and a cute little hat.
"You're too cute," says her mother, " are you all ready now?"
"Yes ma'am !!" Grace said as she saluted her mother.
They walked out of the house, her mother locking the door behind them, as Grace gets in the car and puts her seatbelt on.
They drove down to the beach near their house to watch the sunset, like they always did, every Friday.
They arrived at the beach and sat in their usual place, where the sand was the softest and they were close to the water. Grace liked the water, she found it calming and very beautiful. She found sea creatures to be very interesting too.
"What would you like to eat today sunshine?" her mother asks as she pulls out a picnic basket," we have apple pie, some goldfish crackers and your favorite candy rainbow sour strips."
"I'm not hungry right now mommy, I wanna go play in the water !!"
"Alright then suit yourself, but be careful and don't go too far okay Grace?"
"I know mommy !!" grace responded as she took her short off and ran off into the water.
The water was cold, but nothing she couldn't handle. Grace had always felt this sense of warmth wherever she was, even in the snow, she felt warm.
It was like she never got cold, and she loves it.
After what seemed like 10 minutes, her mother screamed.
Grace turned around, and saw a gigantic monster coming towards her mother.
She ran out of the water, and running into the arms of her mother and bursting into tears, because of the scary monster infront of them, getting closer and closer by the minute.
Her mother crouched down and turned towards her, " listen to me carefully Grace, I need you to do mommy a favor okay?"
Grace looked into her mother's eyes and nodded," what is it mommy?"
"I need you to take this," her mother tells her while handing her the picnic basket, " take this, and run. Don't stop until you're far away from this town."
"What about you mommy?? You'll be coming with me right?"
"I'll try to be right behind you, okay sunshine?" her mother says," I just need to fix something first"
"But mommy, I can wait for you. And that big scary monster might hurt you."
"Running away from here is gonna be hard sunshine, I know that. But this basket should have enough for you to last at least 2 days. It has food and money and your change of clothes and a blanket okay??"
By this time the monster has been closing in pretty fast and was only about 20 feet away from them.
"But mommy-
"GO !!" Her mother shouts as she gave her one last hug and a kiss on the forehead before pushing her daughter away giving her a boost.
"Dammit, if only I had more time," she heard her mother say before she ran out of earshot.
Grace ran. Ran as fast as she could and as far away from the scary monster as possible. Until she heard it. Her mother's gut wrenching scream that made her tears that were already falling down turn even worse as she turned around. She had to. But she immediately regretted it.
