Leaves turning to seasonal browns, reds, and oranges with the heat still warm lingering from the summer sun. Another school year was both a blessing and a curse, although it was surely better when classes were at least a bit enjoyable. It wasn't the classes that were the problem, instead {y/n} had seemingly lost the lottery when it came to the dorm they were assigned. Night Raven College was a good school, there wasn't any doubt about it, but the house warden was the textbook definition of a control-freak.
{y/n} always made an effort to avoid the man– not that they made an effort to talk to anyone. It was uncomfortable to attend a school filled with only men, and as someone who didn't exactly have the right...parts to attend the school the fear was always there. Nobody knew that they were a ball-less buffoon, outside of the beastmen and other non-human students. At least they had enough of a heart to not tell a soul.
The best part of moving back into a dorm after summer was getting to decorate it again. Moving in what's comfortable mixed with adding new things to your environment, but it would be a lot funner in another house. Some poor kid last year got screamed at for having sheets that were a crimson red rather than a rose red, and for using 3 pillows instead of 4.
Riddle has been a problem since he became housewarden, but it wasn't like anyone could really do anything about it. Trey would sometimes be able to calm him down during these petty arguments, but it wasn't all too common. Ducking away from his fury was difficult, but not impossible.
The sheets were new, four white pillows, a black and white checkered comforter, an appropriate amount of succulents, a neatly stocked and sorted, a spacious desk, a lack of clutter... even if it wasn't the most homey of an environment, it kept them out of trouble. It was basic, painfully lol lso, but what little possible to make it more appealing had qalready been done. It had been inspected already, meaning it no good to go. in
And yet, even now that {y/n} could settle into their room, they were agitated after the day of classes. Get-to-know you assignments were easy but annoying, pretending to care about the kids in your class who you know you'll never talk to after that day, on top of being social at 6 in the morning when nobody really wants to be there.
But in their exhaustion, and since it was only the first day, they made a fatal mistake. A cup of lemon tea with 2 sugar cubes.
It was evening by now, and they had simply mixed up the rules. It wouldn't have been so bad if it hadn't been for the knock at their door— Riddle was checking on students on his way to ask Trey to make him a cup of tea. After knocking; he entered the room, taking a look around before setting on {y/n} with their cup of the wrong type of tea.
"What is it your drinking?" His voice almost caught them off guard, but the sound of his heels clicking against tile outside of the dorm rooms was very distinct. {y/n} had hoped that they wouldn't have to deal with them on the first day back at NRC but it seemed like it wasn't at all their lucky day. Before they opened their mouth, they held up the cup of the yellow-ish liquid, and he seemed displeased by the sight.
"It's lemon tea. With two sugar cubes," {y/n} spoke simply, hoping that he would just go away and leave them alone after this, but as already said, it wasn't their lucky day. The short man placed his hands on his hips before opening his own mouth to speak out a reply.
"The queen's rules clearly dictate that in the afternoon the only tea to be dranken in the evenings," his voice highlighted his annoyance, glaring down at {y/n} as if they had just committed some crime against him. They looked at their cup of tea before back up at their housewarden. Even if they wanted to call him out for punishing someone over something so small on the very first day of school, they knew it would only put themselves in more trouble with him and that was the last thing they wanted. They chose to instead bite their tongue, hoping they could find a way out of being subjected to the wrath of his signature spell.
