It was weird how you could have a stereotype of a person for your entire life, and in one meeting–Your first meeting–they prove you completely wrong. I had spent my entire life thinking that Lucifer was a cruel man, in my mind, he had to be if he was bad enough to have gotten us all banished to a forgotten Island; But he wasn't. Lucifer wasn't good per se, but he wasn't what I thought him to be.
Then again, he could have given me a good impression, and fool me later. That's certainly what I was thinking about Seth right about now. I was currently standing outside of the briefing room as I listened to Seth shout at Lucifer for allowing me to take my father's place.
"You can't possibly be serious," He seethed. "I've met the girl, she has absolutely no clue what goes on here, and now we just have to sit back and let her take over?"
"It was Roman's dying wish, Lust–" What? "–and you would do well to remember that you aren't in charge here."
"I don't give a damn about Roman's dying wish." Seth retorted. "He killed himself, Luci."
"I am very aware of how he died, however, next time you should choose your words more carefully, because his daughter has been outside this door for the past ten minutes waiting for you to calm yourself so that she could join the brief."
As I stood outside the briefing room, the tension between Seth and Lucifer was palpable, their voices echoing through the corridor. It was surreal to hear them argue, especially about me and my father's last wish.
Feeling a mix of curiosity and apprehension, I debated whether to intervene or wait for them to resolve their dispute. However, before I could make a decision, the door swung open, revealing Lucifer standing there, his expression composed despite the obvious strain of the argument.
"Come in, Aria," he said, his tone firm yet inviting. "We have much to discuss."
I hesitated for a moment, glancing between Lucifer and Seth, who was still simmering with anger. Taking a deep breath to steady myself, I stepped into the room, the weight of their gazes following me.
Seth's glare bore into me, his resentment palpable. "This is ridiculous," he muttered under his breath, but Lucifer shot him a warning look as he walked toward the end of the room.
"But not so ridiculous as you nearly getting your ass handed to you by a girl who has no idea what's going on, I'm guessing?" I retorted, and Seth scowled. Clearly, he remembered our meeting as freshly as I did.
Seth's scowl deepened, his jaw tensing as he shot me a sharp look. "You've got some nerve," he growled, his voice low and menacing.
I met his gaze evenly, refusing to back down despite the intensity of his glare. "I'm just speaking the truth," I replied, my tone firm and unwavering. "If you can't handle a little challenge, maybe you're not as tough as you think you are."
Lucifer intervened before Seth could respond, his voice calm yet authoritative. "That's enough, both of you," he said, his gaze flickering between us. "We have more pressing matters to attend to."
Reluctantly, Seth tore his gaze away from mine, his expression still filled with simmering resentment. He took a seat at the table, his posture stiff and rigid as he folded his arms across his chest.
I turned and saw a girl with short dark hair and sharp features glaring at me as if trying to figure out a puzzle. I glared back.
"Aria," Lucifer began. "Tell us what you know about your father's goals."
"Nothing." Seth snapped. "I already told you that she knows nothing."
I ignored him as I cast my glance at Lucifer. "For twenty years you have been looking for the six scions that you created. Each represents one of the seven deadly sins, excluding Sloth and Gluttony who are one in the same. I presume that he's Lust." I knock my head toward Seth. "My father wrote that you already had two here, which makes me believe that Pixie is one as well, though my guess would be vanity and that isn't a deadly sin. Maybe...Pride?" Lucifer looked impressed, but I wasn't done.
