Taehyung walked down the steps of his house, paying little mind to his surroundings as he was preoccupied on his phone.
As he rounded the counter and stepped into the entrance to his kitchen, he froze at the unfamiliar voice speaking.
Looking up, he scowled as he tried to place the unfamiliar figure sitting at his kitchen island.
"Oh-Taehyung!" His mom beckoned him as their conversation ceased, eyes turning to observe him now.
"Oh, this is the one I was talking about. This is my son, Taehyung. And Taehyung, this i-" his step-dad began to introduce the two to one another.
But before the unfamiliar figure was even introduced, or the reason why his parents were suddenly at home without any warning, a voice cut through their conversation.
"Dad?"
Taehyung spun around, shocked by the sudden voice around him as he came face to face with Jennie, whose eyes were trailed on the figure in the kitchen.
And then he registered what she had called the said figure, and turned back to register the man who he just figured out was Jennie's dad.
"Hello Mr.Kim." Rosé greeted next as she stepped next to Jennie, offering a polite smile.
"Hello Roseanne. My, you've grown quite a lot. You were far younger the last time I saw you." Jennie's dad, Mr.Kim focused on the girl, paying little regard to his daughter.
"Why don't you both freshen up and join us. Till then, Taehyung you should join us first." Mr.Park had offered to the girls and then Taehyung.
"Yes...that sounds good." Jennie nodded, oddly defeated as she turned around to head up the stairs, Rosé following behind.
"Taehyung?" His mom called, causing Taehyung to slip his eyes away from Jennie and back to the table, where he begrudgingly sat down.
"Taehyung, this is Jennie's father. He and your dad went to university together, along with th-" His mom began to introduce.
"We were roommates actually." Mr.Park suddenly cut in as he sent an odd look to his wife, a silent message to not bring up whoever she was about to before refocusing on the conversation.
"I see. It's nice to meet you." Taehyung politely greeted, not wanting to create a scene or embarrass his mother and step-father.
After Taehyung's polite greeting, an awkward silence fell over the dinner table, soon to be broken by the conversation between the adults.
"Remember the time we accidentally set off the fire alarm trying to cook?"Mr. Park attempted to keep the atmosphere light, sharing anecdotes from their university days.
"Indeed. Though, I recall your culinary skills haven't improved much since then." Mr. Kim offered a tight-lipped smile.
Laughter filled the room momentarily, dissipating the tension until Jennie and Rosé rejoined them, freshly showered and dressed for dinner.
