Sleepy portraits (King Boo x Rosalina)

The stars align with the supernatural

Rosalina sighed as she leaned back in her chair. Being ruler of the stars was hard, and she had no one to turn to seeing as she couldn't interfere with mortals lives. She did have her lumalees, and while they were fun to watch over they weren't much company. She brushed her hair to the side as she went over everything, her fast reading a blessing and a cursing. Some prayers and wishes here, marriage proposals there. As she was reading, a ghostly face let out a roar from within the walls. Right. He was there. But he was insignificant. He didn't matter, not at the moment. She had more important things to tend to.

"Go away," she said as the ghost materialized.

"Oh come on Rosa, ya' know ya' miss me. Come on, at least show a little smile," he said as he floated around her head.

"I didn't, now go away! You're not supposed to be here. I have important matters to tend to, and you're being a distraction," she huffed.

"That would make sense...and I would listen to you...but there's one thing you forgot. I'm one hundred percent dead! So I can be here all I want bwahahaha!" he cackled, sticking out his ghostly tongue.

"I couldn't care what you classify as! You're distracting me! Now go away!" she said as she tried to swat him away like a bug.

"Come on Rosie, don't ya' want to have a break? I can tell you're stressed and we can do whatever you want! It doesn't have to be for a long time, we can just hang out for a little while if you want. Pretty please with a cherry on top?" King Boo asked.

"Fine. I'll leave my duties to my brother, not like he can screw that much up. But only for a little bit," she relented as though the fate of the universe wasn't in his hands.

"Yay! Ooh, you should see who I trapped in my latest painting! It's a Koopa, and it made the darklands rulers real mad until they say who it was. Or we could look at the one when the toad got stuck wandering where he didn't belong! No wait..." king boo continued to babble on, floating through the void as he entered a portal he created, Rosalina following close behind.

"We should start with this portrait. This one doesn't have any live specimens, but it does depict a kingdom who I have trade deals with. Their king and queen are a force to be reckoned with, although it's mainly their queen who scares me. I would not mess with him," King Boo explained, showing a painting of Bowser and Luigi. Rosalina couldn't help but feel a little jealous when King Boo talked about Luigi, and for a fleeting moment, wished he talked about her that way. King Boo continued, "This next one is King Bomb-omb and his people. Pretty fun to be around and he's wise. But now that the important things are over, we can get to the fun ones with live specimens!" King Boo cackled, beginning to rant about the paintings. Rosalina smiled and nodded, chuckling softly at his enthusiasm. At the end, Rosalina felt like almost all her stress had melted as though a curse was lifted. She sat down at the bench at the end of the hall, king boo floating nearby for a moment before shifting into his human form.

"Told ya' you would feel better! You do feel better, right?" He asked, sitting next to her.

"I do feel better thanks to you. I needed a break." Rosalina sighed, leaning her head on his shoulder as her eyes fluttered shut, drifting into a mix of being awake and being asleep.

King Boo chuckled, though it came out as a cackle. He waved his finger, and him and Rosalina were in her room. With another wave of his hand, she was changed. He stood by the bed, admiring her beauty. She was like a poisonous flower, beautiful and sweet but impossible to get close to. As he was about to teleport out, Rosalina whimpered softly, her face scrunching up. King Boo sighed as he changed himself with a snap. He pulled back the covers, slipping in next to her. And no, he wasn't staying because he liked Rosalina. He was staying to help her sleep. Definitely.
