Hockey if that counts, reading (he's dyslexic but loves poetry), exercising if that counts, cooking, guitar, he doesn't really leave himself much time for these thingsOccupation
Hockey player, level depends on roleplay but he's usually just starting off in the NHL.Traits
Determined, cheery, energetic, extroverted, family-oriented, a bit of a people pleaser, not a great loser, protective to a stupid degree, not very perceptive but a quick learner,Scars/Distinctive markings
He has a scar just above his left eyebrow from getting hit with a puck when he was twelve. Another from an appendectomy. It's very common to see him with a cut up face and black eyes however.Bad Habits
Will not turn down a fight. It's like he's incapable of it. He always feels like he has to prove himself to everyone, especially his family. It makes him easy to antagonize. He'll also insist he's fine even if he's not. If his hand is broken, he is still going to try to play. If he's had the worst day imaginable and is sobbing, he's going to say he's perfectly fine.Other
He's generally a pretty wholesome person who likes ice baths, old movies, ice cream, and hot chocolate. He also loves old sit-coms and sword and sorcery movies.History
Mattie has played hockey for as long as he can remember, it's pretty much what you have to do to ever make a career of it and even then it takes luck and work. His dad was one of those sports parents who saw his son had a chance at the big leagues and did absolutely everything he could to make sure he made it. It was tough, it made Mattie's brother and sister feel neglected and made him feel like his worth was measured in points. But it worked out (right?) because now Mattie's there. He's on the ice with men he thought were gods.
His father left when he was eight and it cost the family everything. But Mattie's siblings and mother all got jobs, they all made sure that he could get to practice every day and had good gear. They worked so he could devote his time to training. To pay them back, he defended them. When his brother got bullied for being gay, guess who was waiting outside the school for the buildings. When his sister's boyfriend cheated on her, guess who tracked him down.
Fighting was what Mattie was good at, but protecting was what he was best at. He put people in their place, made sure they knew never to touch his friends or teammates again. For the most part, his hockey fights aren't angry, they're just a part of the game. When a fight is angry though, you need to watch out.
So, when he was drafted that's what he did. He took every chance to fight, to prove to himself and his siblings that he had been worth it. They didn't waste their time. Their father hadn't wasted his
All Mattie wants is for them to be proud. And hey, maybe if he's good enough his dad will come back, right?Faceclaim
