Chapter VIII

L A L I S A

I walked to her and grab her wrist and pull her out of my apartment.

"You can't stay here, I'll bring you back to the mansion." As we walked outside, I reached into my pocket for the car keys. Panic shot through me as I realized they weren't there.

"Where are my keys?" I exclaimed, searching through my pockets frantically. "Fckng bitch!" I cussed causing Jennie to jolt. That bitch Sarah got my car. I groaned in frustration, the sound echoing through the empty street. This is not how I had planned the evening to go.

As I paced back and forth, frustration bite at me. My car was gone, and my bike was still at the repair shop. At this hour, there was no way to get to the mansion, it's a three hour drive from here. But I couldn't let her staying here with me.

"Damn it!" I cursed the air.

"I can call a cab and stay at a hotel," Jennie suggested, noticing my distress. I would like to accept that but I can't let her be alone, my mom is going to kill me.

"It's too late for you to be out by yourself and it's a long drive to the mansion." I let out a heavy sigh "Stay here," I replied, trying to sound nonchalant. Jennie's eyes widened in surprise.

"I don't want to be a bother." I let out a frustrated moan.

"It's not like I have a fckng choice. I don't have an extra room for you so sleep in the couch. I'll grab some blankets."

She nodded, a small smile playing on her lips and said the words Thank you, but I just waved her off.

As the night drew on, I found myself unable to shake off the restlessness that clung to me like a stubborn shadow. I roamed the apartment, the soft hum of the air conditioner the only sound to break the stillness.

The sight of Jennie curled up on the couch in the living room, cocooned in the blankets that I had given her, tugged at something within me.

Her peaceful expression, the gentle rise and fall of her chest as she breathed, held a strange fascination for me. I couldn't resist the urge to draw closer, to study the delicate curve of her cheek, the flutter of her eyelashes against her skin.I crouched down beside her.

"I'm sorry for snapping at you earlier and for being a jerk." I whispered, my breath catching as I reached out to brush a stray lock of hair away from her face. Inches away from her face, I can't stop myself from looking at her lips, "And I'm sorry for doing this again." Then I gave her a peck on her lips.

"Beautiful.." I whispered. She stirred, and a soft moan escaping her lips. I felt a rush of warmth flood through me when she slightly opened her eyes and in that moment,.

"Lisa?" Jennie's voice was drowsy, a hint of confusion lacing her words.

"Go back to sleep, Jennie." I whispered and kissed her forehead. My heart pounding in my chest. My fingers lingered against her cheek for just a moment longer before I retreated, stealing one last glance at her before slipping back into the darkness of my own room.

I woke up to the delightful aroma of sizzling bacon and brewing coffee. Rubbing my eyes, I dragged myself out of bed and made my way to the kitchen. There, I found Jennie, humming along to a tune that only she can hear, as she skillfully flipped the bacon in the pan then moved to cut something on the chopping board.

I leaned my body against the doorframe and watch her work. Jennie glanced up, a blush tinting her cheeks and she stopped. I walked towards her, watching her closer.

"L-Lisa, good morning. I hope you don't mind me making your breakfast. I wanted to make something for you as a way of saying thank you for letting me stay here." I couldn't help but chuckle at her earnestness.

"I've never been the one to turn down a home-cooked meal. It smells amazing." Jennie beamed and placed a plate of crispy bacon and fluffy scrambled eggs and kimchi in front of me. As I took a bite, I was pleasantly surprised by her culinary skills.

"Wow, this is delicious," I exclaimed between mouthfuls, it's different when I was the one who cooked for my own. Jennie's smile so lightly, and I noticed a hint of relief in her eyes. This is the most genuine smile I have ever seen from her.

The sounds of sizzling and clinking of utensils filled the air, creating a cozy atmosphere. Little did I know, the more time I spent with Jennie, the more my heart softened towards her. I watched her move around the kitchen, her movements hesitant yet purposeful. It was strange how her presence in my apartment was starting to feel less intrusive and more... comfortable. I cleared my throat, trying to dispel the uneasy feeling creeping up on me.

"Do you have any plans for today?" I asked, hoping to keep the conversation light. Jennie turned to me, her eyes wide with surprise.

"Oh, um, not really," she murmured, a hint of uncertainty in her voice. I couldn't help but notice the way she flinched slightly when she spoke everytime, as if she was afraid of saying the wrong thing. Seeing her so timid and fragile tugged at something within me, and I think it's my fault.

"Great," I said, forcing a casual tone. "I was thinking maybe we could... go out for a walk later, if you want." Jennie's eyes widened, then she responded with a hopeful hum.

The sizzle of the bacon in the pan filled the silence as Jennie plated the breakfast. I watched her movements, the way she carefully arranged the food on the plates, her brow furrowed in concentration. It was almost endearing, in a way.
