Charles ate his dinner with Max opposite of him, the two wolves were laying by the fireplace.

Max had cooked dinner for them, just a simple boar stew he had made in the time that it had gotten completely dark. The smell of the stew made Charles really hungry and Max seemed in no rush to finish it.

The dutchman was talking about something, a story about Daniel and the new best friend that Charles had made, Pierre. Something about their not so decent escapades out in the woods and Max catching them one too many times.

That's not long before a name falls from Max's lips that has Charles feel paralysed. "You should have seen Daniel with Jules." Max says.

"J-jules?"

Max looks up from stirring the cauldron, looking a bit confused. "Yeah, Jules Bianchi." The chief casually explains to Charles as if he hadn't just mentioned a name of his deceased godfather. Like it was just a simple name to him.

"T-that was my g-godfather." Charles says at the brink of tears.

"Well, i don't know about the was. It's more like is then." Max says, coming to sit down next to Charles who wipes away the tears.

"What do you mean?" He asks, teary eyed and confused about what Max means.

With a hand on his shoulder, Max smiles kindly at him. It's not sad nor pitiful. "Jules is staying in Hoorn, the farthest city from the capital." Max explains, which has Charles sob louder but in relief this time. His godfather hadn't been lost to the ocean when he came out as omega.

He flings his arms around Max. "Can i see him?"

"He'll be back in a few weeks, he left to study the ice dragons in the eastern mountain range. He wrote to me that he was on his way back." Max explains.

Charles pulls away to wipe the tears from his cheeks and he's so glad that he has at least someone left in this world that he knows that understands the standards of his family and the fear he had felt from back then. He was the only one that understood the fear of being discovered and be accused of lying and false pretends of being an Alpha.

"Thank you." Charles says, he understands that Max had done the same for Jules as he did for him and Arthur.

Max rubs his back softly. "Any time."

"Can't wait to see him." Charles says as he looks at Max getting back up and going back to making dinner.

The chief tastes his food, nibbling on the spoon to know if the food is right. "I bet, he's a good researcher and contributes a lot of his time and efforts to the library."
