Your hands moved with lightning speed as you snatched your books from your locker and crammed them into your backpack. The clock was ticking, and you had only mere minutes before the halls would be flooded with nosey students. All day long, you had skillfully evaded prying eyes and dodged questions about the police presence at school and your involvement in whatever had happened. Truth be told, you didn't even really know what you had supposedly done, let alone why the police were involved.
"They're saying Eddie did it". Chrissy's voice broke through your thoughts, barely above a whisper, as she scanned the halls. "Did you even see him today?"
You hastily zipped up your bag and slung it over your shoulder, relieved that you would escape just in the nick of time. "Nope," you replied absentmindedly.
"Well, someone planted the weed in Chance and Andy's locker, and they're saying Eddie seems like the most likely suspect," she explained while you both began making your way towards the exit.
You couldn't spare a moment to listen to her right now. You needed to get out of there before you found yourself in any more situations like earlier that day.
You reached into the back of your locker, grabbing a few loose papers before slamming the metal shut. Suddenly, a surge of white hot terror shot through your veins, sending shivers down your spine. You locked eyes with the embodiment of pure evil. Goosebumps erupted over your body, and fear consumed your every thought. Instinctively, you turned away, shutting your eyes tightly to avoid seeing Chance's face resting against the lockers next to you. Even though his image was already seared into your mind. Strangely, having your back to him made you feel even more vulnerable, as if that was more dangerous than staring into his snake-eyes. You almost wished you could face him head-on, just to know what he was capable of. His presence loomed closer, and the hairs on your neck stood on end.
"I know your little boyfriend is behind all of this", he sneered. "Do you know where he is?"
Nervously, you shook your head, keeping your gaze fixed on the floor, paralyzed with fear. "No," you choked, your voice barely audible.
It didn't occur to you that you should have probably said he wasn't your boyfriend, but your mind wasn't working too well at that point.
You had heard whispers about Eddie planting weed in Chance's locker, but dismissed them as baseless rumors. That was, until the cops showed up and did a sweep of the entire school. For the last couple periods no one was allowed to go in or out of the hallways while they searched every nook and cranny to find the culprits. As if Andy and Chance couldn't possibly be bad kids, who do the devil's lettuce. Nope, no stoners here, just rapists.
"I gotta go Chriss, but I love you and I'll call you", you pressed, before hugging her and speed walking away.
"No you won't", she smiled at you before mumbling to herself, "but that's okay".
