Author's POV:
The next morning, around 7 a.m., Arya lay sprawled on her bed as soft sun rays filtered through the window and balcony, bathing the room in a golden glow. Slowly, she stirred, her eyelids fluttering open in a gentle motion.
As she fully woke up, an ache throbbed in her head, a consequence of overworking herself. She groaned, clutching her temples. For a moment, she thought about calling in sick and skipping work entirely. But then, the memory of yesterday's call with the receptionist struck her like a bolt.
"How could I be so chicken-headed? I completely forgot I have to go to his house today!"
Her frustration bubbled over as she muttered irritably, "What the hell, bro? I'm not even feeling well, and now I have to go. If I don't, the H.R. will definitely restrict me from the hospital."
With a resigned sigh, Arya pushed herself out of bed and freshened up. Her stomach grumbled as she headed toward the kitchen, and on the way, she met her mother.
"Hi, Arya. How are you, beta? Achhi neend aayi?" her mother asked with a warm smile, her concern evident.
(Slept well?)"Yes, Maa. Waise bhi, India ki hawa ka mazza hi alag hai," Arya replied, a soft smile tugging at her lips. She had returned from the U.S. just a week ago after four long years, and the feeling of being home was irreplaceable.
(Anyway, India's air just hits differently.)"Maa, those freaking four years, I missed you so much," Arya said suddenly, pulling her mother into a tight hug, her emotions spilling over.
"But I missed you more, bacche," her mother said, stroking Arya's hair affectionately.
Arya smiled and pulled back. "Maa, I'm hungry," she declared.
"Okay, bacche, go call Aahan. We'll have breakfast together," her mother instructed, and Arya nodded before heading toward her brother's room.
When Arya entered, she found Aahan sitting on the bed, busy talking on the phone.
"Bhai, Maa is calling for breakfast," Arya said, standing near the door.
"Okay, wait a second. Let me finish this call," Aahan replied without looking at her.
Arya huffed impatiently. "Bhai, I'm starving! I can't wait any longer. By the way, who's on the call? Let me talk to him too," she said, stepping closer.
Aahan chuckled at her eagerness. "Really, Arya? You want to talk to him?"
"Of course! It's Abhi, right?" she guessed, referring to their cousin.
"No, it's my friend," Aahan replied with a smirk.
"Who?" Arya inquired, her curiosity piqued.
"You don't know him. I met him in my boarding school, then you went to the U.S.," he explained casually.
