Prologue: The Life of Kurt Maxill!

Kurt Maxill Narration: "They say that just before you die, your life flashes before your eyes... I guess... that's what's happening to me right now."

Images of a young man in his early twenties, wearing glasses could be seen working tirelessly as he continued typing on a computer's keyboard.

Kurt Maxill Narration: "Ah... this was before I got the offer."

The images then changed to the bespectacled young man now shaking hands with people wearing business suits. Around them were what looked to be large devices that seemed like they were meant to be sat on.

"This is when I accepted being a Beta Tester for that gaming capsule company."

The next images then showed the young man being enveloped by a blinding bright light emitted by the gaming capsule he was using. After which he then woke up as a newborn baby in a different world.

"The moment when I was reincarnated after the accident."

A torrent of images then began flooding Kurt's eyes...

Images of the baby growing up into a boy with messy black hair...

Images of him making friends in an orphanage...

Images of him being alienated by his father's noble family after first meeting them... 

Images of the boy first learning swordsmanship...

Images of him becoming a young teen and awakening his 'Gift'...

Images of him being stared at with disappointment and contempt due to his unimpressive 'Gift'...

Images of the boy being thought how to fight by a one-armed soldier...

Images of him reuniting with his old friends from the orphanage and going on adventures...

Images of the boy leading his friends to constantly finding treasures and secrets with the knowledge he knew...

Kurt Narration: "My childhood in this life might not have been perfect.... but it did have it's bright points huh."

Kurt was originally a hired beta tester for a virtual game company that wanted to release a new type of virtual reality game inspired by the Final Fantasy Games and many that were similar to it.

After more than eight months of constantly testing this new virtual game, a mysterious accident occurred on the VR Pod he was playing in. The next thing he knew he was a newborn infant in a very different world.

Quickly realizing that he was reincarnated as an unimportant side character in a world similar to the virtual game he was playing, the person who was now the character known as Kurt Maxill decided he would try his best to assist the main cast of characters of this reality by using the knowledge he had of this world's virtual reality game version.

Many years passed and Kurt began his teenage years which gave him the chance to awaken his 'Gift'... He was very much looking forward to this chance after all in the VR Game's original story, the side character known as 'Kurt Maxill' was never somebody who possessed the potential to awaken a 'Gift'. The fact that he was given this chance pretty much meant that his potential was greater than the original Kurt.

Unfortunately though... despite this chance, the results were bittersweet to say the least. Must know that in this reality those who are able to awaken their 'Gift' possess power much greater compared to ordinary people.

In the VR Game version of this reality, a character's 'Gift' was basically their Job Class. And it just so happens that Kurt's Gift was sadly the least sought-after Gift among the 11 most common Gifts.... [Freelancer]. Must know that in most of the Final Fantasy games which the VR Game version of this reality was based off, the Freelancer Job Class was the default Job Class and had the lowest stats. It was even considered by many as simply the 'Jobless' class.
