It had been roughly nine days now into spring of working small jobs for the townspeople and day in day out farming, mining or fishing (after the mines finally cleared up). The cat had been fine (Still haven't figured out a name for him) going in and out and had even brought me a few dead squirrels (thanks buddy). But nothing interesting had happened yet, I hadn't talked to Sam, Abby or Sebastian since either the Fish or when I led them to my dads place, aside from maybe seeing them in town and exchanging a friendly wave or smile (with an exception for Sebastian who just looked at me and kept doing whatever it was he was doing).
The Parsnips had grown and brought good cash and I had replaced them with green beans and Cauliflower. The air had started to go slightly warmer and small flowers were starting to bud, there were only nineteen days left of the season before Summer. Sometimes I missed home, sometimes I didn't. Most of the time, I did.
I knew that the Seasonal Wizard and Witches of the Ferngill Island's were meeting. The Gottoro Empire witches and wizards used to join us, but since the war broke out in the Gottoro Empire between us they haven't attended. I wondered lightly if I would be invited. Technically I wasn't a full Wizard but the meeting normally allowed the children of Wizards or Witches that held powers to attend as well, though they wouldn't be able to vote or voice opinions on the board like their parents could. But I wasn't sure, I was technically on my 'exploration' or whatever and that meant no contact or advice on my magic.
I thought all of this, of course while sitting on the same small pond dock I normally did. I wasn't alone this time though, A couple of hours ago a girl with bright orange hair in a braid sat down and started carving at a piece of wood. We didn't really exchange any words it was just an understood agreement that we could both sit at the dock and enjoy the valley while doing our own thing. We hadn't even exchanged names but I was pretty sure she knew mine.
I picked loose skin off of my lips wondering if I should invest in a coop, Robin had sent me an advertisement for one a couple days ago but I wasn't sure if I had enough money to pay for the coop and the chickens not to mention plants were my specialty not animals and there was no telling how long I was going to be on this farm.
I frowned and sighed refocusing on the few fish that had somehow made they're way into the pond. "Worms in the brain?" A warm voice asked with a small chuckle, it was the girl with the braid, "Uhm, Yeah, I guess. Just farm stuff." I replied, my voice slightly wavering in tone from the unexpectedness of the conversation.
"Mmm it can be tricky. I only have a small vegetable garden and that alone is a lot of work! I admire your dedication to the farm." She replies. Her attention not wavering from the piece of wood she was sculpting. "Thanks." I replied, smiling at the slightly unexpected compliment.
"If it's not to personal, can I ask why you moved to the valley?" I bristled a little at the question, I couldn't tell her the truth but if I told her a complete lie it would come out weird, "I guess it was to just pursue my interests. I've always had an interest in plants and botany this just seemed like a good next step." I replied, shrugging. "Similar to why I moved here." She replied smiling.
We stayed in silence for a few more minutes, the air wasn't awkward but the unexpected conversation still laid in the air, like we should be saying more than we did. Eventually though she left, just leaving me with me and my thoughts in the slightly fading light of the sun.
I hadn't brought a fishing pole or a bookbag, intending for this to just be a short walk not a psychological analysis about wether or not I should buy a chicken coop. I sighed and stood up, stretching before heading towards the town, maybe a help wanted poster would be on the town notice board. Extra money never hurt anyone. It was probably about one or two in the afternoon, and the town was relatively active. Jodi and a woman with some...very bold green hair were whispering and laughing about something and people were just walking around in general.
