Chapter 9: Caretaker ft. Sanemi

(this is quite the long chapter, so brace yourself. Also, I'll be giving information about [Reader]'s parents. Some people might not like it when the writer is giving [Reader] too much story that doesn't fit the reader themselves. It is supposed to represent reader to begin with. But I'll try not to overuse that information of [Reader] and keep them general)

Friday, 12 pm., school halls

"DAMN IT [READER]!! GET YOUR ASS BACK HERE!!" Sanemi yelled while he chased down [Reader] across the hallway.

"I'M SORRY!! PLEASE STOP CHASING ME YOU'RE ONLY GONNA MAKE ME WANNA RUN AWAY EVEN MORE!!" [Reader] yelled back, outrunning Sanemi.

Students passing by could see the teacher chasing the student through the halls. Shinobu watched from afar, amused at the situation.

Gyutarou walked towards her with a rather confused look. "What did [Reader] do this time?" He asked Shinobu.

"[Reader] was bringing in some boxes to the teacher's office. Unbeknownst to them, one of the box had a stray cat inside, so they mistakenly brought in the cat inside the teacher's office." Shinobu explained.

She continued more. "Tomioka sensei is absent today so Shinazugawa sensei took his place in chasing the delinquents."

"I thought there's no rule against bringing stray animals inside the school grounds?" He asked.

She shrugged. "Well, after the incident happened a few weeks ago, the school decided to uphold a new rule in restricting stray animals in the school."

"And why don't your dear friend [Reader] explain themselves instead of running away from Shinazugawa Sensei?"

Shinobu turned to face Gyutarou. "Gyutarou, you're a delinquent yourself. If you were to defend yourself after causing so many troubles, do you really think that the teacers would believe you?"

"Fair point..." He mumbled.

[Reader] manage to outrun Sanemi and quickly hid in one of the staff rooms. They sprinted towards an open door and closed it behind them.

"Oh thank God... I thought I was gonna die..." [Reader] panted heavily, trying to catch their breath.

"Uhh- you okay, buddy?" Tengen asked in slight worry.

[Reader] immediately looked up only to see the teachers looking at them in worry, confusion and shock. "Shit-" They cursed under their breath upon realising that they entered the teacher's office by mistake.

"Oh dear... [Reader], are you alright?" Kanae walked over to them and kneeled down next to them, offering a tissue for their sweaty face.

"I'm fine- just... tired..." They breathed out.

"Lemme guess... Shinazugawa chased you again?" Goto asked, not leaving his desk. [Reader] nodded in response.

"You shouldn't have brought the cat inside the teacher's office to begin with." Obanai scolded, glaring at them from his desk.

"I didn't! It just happens to sleep in the box that I was bringing here!" [Reader] tried to defend themselves.

"Yeah, very believable answer." Obanai rolled his eyes at them.

Kanae thought for a moment. "Speaking of which... Where is the cat? I worried that it might roam around the building and cause trouble..." She sighed.

"Himejima is taking care of it. Or playing with it, more or less the same..." Kyogai explained.

Kyojuro slid open the door, causing [Reader] to flinch in fear. "Oh my, I didn't mean to scare you! Are you alright, dear [Reader]?" He lifted their trembling form up to his eye level and checked on them to see if they were alright.
