Back Of The Bus
April 1st, 2019
MorningAYANOKOJI POV
Me {The road to school was bumpy—literally and figuratively. I sat at the back of the bus, staring out the window as the scenery shifted from residential blocks to crowded intersections. The bus grew increasingly packed with passengers, most of them students wearing the same uniform I was. At first, I thought taking the bus would be an efficient way to get to Advance Nurturing High School. But as more people piled in and the cold wind from the poorly sealed window kept blowing in, I realized I'd made a mistake. I considered closing my eyes for a moment, hoping to steal a few minutes of sleep. Then came the commotion. A sharp voice broke through the soft hum of the bus}
??? [Don't you think you should give up your seat?]
Me {I opened my eyes, unsure if the scolding was directed at me. But it wasn't. A young, blonde-haired man sat in one of the priority seats, his posture relaxed, one leg crossed over the other. He looked well-built, his tone dripping with confidence as he replied}
Young Blonde [That's a crazy question, lady]
Me {An office lady stood nearby, her voice growing louder as she argued with him. She gestured toward the elderly woman next to her, clearly expecting the boy to move. But he didn't budge}
Young Blonde [Why should I give up my seat to an old woman? There's absolutely no reason for me to move]
Me {He said, smirking. The bus grew quieter, the passengers watching the heated exchange. The boy's demeanor wasn't what you'd expect from a high school student. Confident, brash, even smug. The office lady pressed further}
Office Lady [It's common courtesy to give priority seats to the elderly!]
Me {The boy leaned back, unbothered}
Young Blonde [Priority seats are just that—priority. There's no legal obligation for me to move]
Me {Their argument escalated, drawing the attention of everyone on the bus. I didn't care much for the situation, but it was hard to ignore. Then, another voice cut through the noise}
??? [Everyone! Could you please listen to me for a moment?]
Me {A girl stood up, wearing the same school uniform as me. She had long beige hair and a crimson gradient eyes. Her tone was calm but firm. She tried to mediate, asking anyone to give up their seat for the elderly woman. No one moved. I glanced around. Most of the passengers either avoided eye contact or hesitated. No one wanted to involve themselves in the drama. I noticed another girl sitting nearby with an expressionless face, seemingly unbothered by the situation. She had long black hair and red eyes as well. Her presence stood out, not because she was ignoring the conflict, but because she looked so detached, as if she'd already decided it wasn't worth her attention. Next to her was a white-haired boy, taller than most passengers, who seemed irritated by the entire ordeal}
Me {The black haired girl and I locked eyes briefly. There was something unnerving about her calmness—cold, calculating, unyielding. I thought, for a moment, that we might've shared the same thought: Why bother? Eventually, someone—a random woman—offered her seat to the elderly lady, ending the conflict. The girl with the expressionless face thanked the woman briefly before sitting back down. The bus finally arrived at the school gates. As I stood to leave, I felt a hand on my shoulder}
??? [... Wait a second]
Me {It was her—the black haired girl with the expressionless face}
Black Haired Girl [You were looking at me. Why?]
