15 - Attempt

The next day they began their secret training. They consisted in one of them (usually Jungkook) staying by Windy while the other ran into the forest, and after two minutes the girl had to try to read the wind.

It wasn't easy at first. The girl got tired quickly and couldn't read anything in the wind, but over time she got better and better. She began to hear words spoken by others in it. She could force the wind to lift her into the air. Anyone with the Wind ability quickly learns to fly. She couldn't do it before, but thanks to training with supportive and caring friends, the wind stopped being an unwanted curse for her. She liked him, saw beauty in him. In the evenings she always opened the window at night and let the breeze hit her.

During official training, they hid most of Windy's abilities. Martinus was right that the less teachers know, the better. They only showed that Windy was already able to eavesdrop on others and determine the enemy's location.

After a few weeks, the day of the mission came. It wasn't anything very important. This is the first test mission, part of the preparations to make them an elite for special tasks in the future. The intelligence service had already learned that a group from the opposing side was planning to attack a gas station that day, probably to steal fuel. The task was simple. Jungkook, Martinus and Windy's group would be the first to arrive nearby. Windy was to keep watch and warn of approaching enemies, tell them where they were so the other team could attack them while they were not yet near normal humans and make the entire plan impossible.

On the way there, almost everyone was very nervous. Almost. The same cannot be said for Jungkook and Martinus. They were both happy that something was finally happening in their lives, finally a rush of adrenaline, some fun, etc. They had never looked so harmonious before.

Windy was very nervous. She was biting her lip and constantly breaking her fingers in her hands. Jungkook noticed this and, not fully knowing what he was doing, covered her small hands with his larger and warmer one. In the meantime, he continued talking to Martinus and did not see the girl's pink cheeks.

Things were going well at first. They separated, Jungkook took the girl in his arms (they did this so that she wouldn't waste any strength unnecessarily) and they started running towards the station. Martinus was watching over the two so that they wouldn't be attacked by surprise, Jungkook was keeping an eye on Elevator.

They approached the road and stopped behind the last trees. There's a gas station in front of them and no traffic.

"I don't feel like a stranger." Windy said.

They hid in this place and waited, time passed and passed and passed. The attackers should have appeared long ago. Their cheerful mood disappeared. It was strange and due to their lack of experience they didn't know what to do.

Jungkook felt stronger gusts of wind around him and saw sweat condensing on Windy's forehead.

"Don't overload yourself, maybe they changed their plans." Jungkook didn't want the girl to constantly bring herself to the point of unconsciousness.

Just about then, the wind blew and knocked them all flat on their backs.

"Hello, little sister," said a voice that belonged to a teenage blonde. It was the first time Windy had seen him in person.

"Who are you?" Martinus spoke up, getting to his feet. Jungkook stood right next to him in a defensive position.

He noticed that there were two other guys standing behind the blonde. The boy looked at them with reluctance.

"And what kind of bream is this? We don't need them" Before Jungkook could get angry, he was hit by a gust of wind so strong that it took his breath away and threw him against a tree. He lost consciousness.

He woke up in his room. Martinus and the teacher stood over the bed.

"It's good that you're up," said Martinus, who erased the previous concern from his face in an instant.

"What happened?" Jungkook asked, still unconscious.

"Then someone must have discovered our plans earlier..."

"I don't care, where's Windy?" The boy couldn't stand it.

The other two in the room exchanged confused glances.

"So where?" Jungkook continued.

"Windy cheated. She left with them. She probably knew about it from the beginning and organized this meeting" The teacher explained with a grave look on his face.

"Not true! Bark it back!" Jungkook started to lose his temper.

"She should sense them. She knew how to do it," Martinus interjected with doubt.

"That was some trick of theirs! She tried to feel them. I saw it myself. I was the one who had her in my arms and I saw how she was trying!"

Unfortunately, it seemed like none of them believed him. Furious, Jungkook stormed out of his room and ran to the girls' wing. He rushed into her room. Empty. Unfortunately, it was empty. He looked around. He started opening cabinets, shelves, and throwing through clothes. The smell of summer wind in every corner. At one point, he opened the curtain and saw a letter stuck behind the door frame on the outside. The envelope read: "Jungkook".

Dear Jungkook!

First of all, I'm sorry. You will be very angry that I left. I had doubts only because of you, but I think it will be better this way. When you passed out (sorry about him) I met my brother. I never knew I had it. He is the son of my father and another woman. He told me about my family. About my father loving me and my mother hiding me from him. I don't know if he was lying, but my mother watched over me all my life and kept me locked up. He said that Water and Fire wanted to use me, and with them I would be able to live a normal life. He told me about people like me and the world I would fit into. I've been a lonely misfit my whole life. I would like to finally feel like I belong somewhere. I hope you understand.

Secondly, thank you for meeting you. I finally had a friend, someone I could trust, who cared about me. Thank you for everything. You mean a lot to me. We are natural enemies, but I hope that when we meet we will be able to laugh together again. I will never be against you.
