31st December 1985

Fuck my dad. Fuck those assholes. Fuck that place.

It's just me now.

I'm finally on my own.

Fuck all the people who said I couldn't do it as well.

My new house is really shitty. A home break-in scene waiting to happen, but it's only temporary - until I can get enough money to move. Or maybe I should just get myself a rich husband.

I throw myself down onto the maroon sofa that sat underneath the large window. I can't afford curtains. I twist my head to look at my second hand television that sits skewiff in the middle of the room on the floor. A video player next to it, waiting for its next shitty movie.

I should probably head to blockbuster - celebrate a successful day of carrying boxes around a creaky house.

I threw a coat on over my comfy clothes. I hadn't unpacked any mirrors yet, but I knew makeup from yesterday still decorated my tired face. Let's just hope I don't look like a complete mess.

The journey over didn't take that long. A five minute walk? The door lightly jingled as I pushed it open. I can't believe this place is open. It's nearly the new year. The last day of 1985 is today and will officially end in....

I check my watch.
22:52

This shitty year will end in an hour and 8 minutes. This place never closes. Let's start the new year right. I do feel bad for the worker though. I look at the man behind the counter. Kinda tall, cool mullet, orange tinted glasses resting on the bridge of his nose. Let's go annoy him.

"Hey there." I grab his attention, walking over to the till. I lean my elbow against the bar and face the empty shop.

"Hello. How may I help you?" He replies as if he were a robot.

"I want to know why you're working instead of going out or staying at home." I give the guy a smile and face him.

"I could ask you a similar question." He raises an eyebrow, resting his back on the shelves stocked with movies behind him.

"Just moved. I don't know anyone. Not really into New Year's anyway." I answer with a light shrug.

"Need to earn money for drugs." he lets out a chuckle at his reasoning to my previous question and I laugh as well with a shake of my head.
