I had lied about Carter and I never happening again

I had lied about Carter and I never happening again. I had lied straight to his face a few months ago when I muttered "It's never going to happen again".

Turns out, he had other plans despite my firm words with him. He had flew all the way from New York City to Hurricane just to chase me down. He did exactly what I had wanted him to do all those times before. The only problem was the timing. Mike had just broke up with me, so having Carter come surprise me with roses on my doorstep so soon was....tiring. However, I gave him a chance. You'd think by now I'd regret it based on his track record, but no. He proved himself this time. So much so, that he had got an apartment here in Hurricane and was working for his company remotely...here...of all places. I couldn't help but love him for the effort he was finally giving me.

"Want me to pick up dinner tonight? Or, are you working late?" Carter asked, popping his head into our room as I continued to fold the laundry.

"I've got off tonight." I explained. "I can't be thankful enough for my parents finally hiring someone to help with the store."

"Takes the weight off your back, huh?" Carter said, as he came into the bedroom and gave me a big hug from behind. I could feel his muscles flex as they wrapped around my waist. I had grown back into loving him, easily.

As the day went on, I spent most of it unpacking here and there around the house while Carter worked in his office. I had recently moved into the 2 bedroom apartment he was renting and it already was feeling like home. Pictures of the two of us were in the foyer. Was this what my future would be like? Just the two of us, and maybe kids one day? A part of me sure hoped so.

I curled up next to Carter in our big bed as I laid my head on his chest and could hear his beating heart as his eyes were set on the tv that was mounted in front of us. His arm reached over to grab me as he began to rub my back. A small kiss was placed on my forehead as we snuggled up next to each other and threw on whatever true crime documentary was trending.

"I love you." he said, pressing a soft kiss to my lips as he turned out the lights and pulled the covers up over him.

"I love you too." I whispered, turning over and closing my eyes.

This had become my reality and I was okay with it. I had almost forgotten the fact that I had my heart broken just six months ago, which just made me more sure I made the right decision being with Carter.
