₊‧✩‧₊Chapter eight:
Wanna float?"Hey Josie...wanna float?" a scratchy voice spoke from behind Josie. She bit her bottom lip viciously as her heart thumped loudly, picturing the blood curdling image of that nasty clown creeping behind her.
Reluctantly, the blonde turned around, her breath unsteady. But once she realized who it really was, her mood quickly loosened up. "Richie, what the hell?!" she snapped, splashing the boy with water. "You scared the shit out of me!"
But in spite of Josie's annoyance, Richie couldn't help but laugh obnoxiously under the moonlight. "You should've seen the look on your face!" he cackled, "you so thought I was the fucking clown!" Richie, who was in nothing but a pair of navy boxers, had pieces of his raven waves sticking to his face, and his glasses were laced with droplets of water.
Josie, unamused rolled her eyes. "Yeah, it's just so funny how you almost gave me a heart attack because I thought you were some psycho clown trying to murder me," she ranted, frowning.
Richie's laughs subsided, his face twisting into an expression of fake sympathy. "I'm sorry, Jos, really," he apologized jokingly, clutching his chest.
Josie quietly scoffed. "What are you even doing here?" she inquired, resting her hands on her hip.
"Couldn't sleep," Richie answered, shrugging. Taking his glasses off, Richie used the palms of his hands to wipe the water droplets off the lenses. "You?"
"Same as you," she replied. "My parents were at it again," she added with a sigh, her eyes drifting down to the murky water that glistened under the moon. The soft glow seemed to dance on top the natural waves of the quarry.
Richie raised his eyebrows, forming a mischievous smirk on his lips. "Woah, you mean like at it, at it or..." he chortled, humping the water in attempt to make a joke, but quickly read Josie's serious demeanor. "Shit, I'm sorry."
Josie pressed her lips together, lightly shrugging her shoulders. "Well, there's not much I can do about it and... I'm used to it anyways."
"Well you know what I think would make you feel better?" said Richie as he slowly advanced towards Josie.
"What?"
Richie smiled. "This." And with that, Richie wrapped his skinny arms around Josie's waist, pulling her up as he body-slammed into the water, submerging the two of them with a loud splash!
Josie quickly broke free from Richie's grasp, shooting up with a loud gasp. Her body shivered as she pushed loose strands of hair away from her face, trying to register in her mind what had just happened.
And seconds later, Richie arose from the water as well, looking proud of what he had just done. "Oh you're a dead man, Tozier!" Josie cried, swimming over to him before throwing him in as payback.
The two teens splashed around for a while, having fun. Josie thought she enjoyed the quarry best alone, but turns out, she enjoyed it much more being alone with Richie.
Though they've goofed off like this many times before, something about this time was different. The whole time an unfamiliar fuzzy feeling float around in Josie's stomach, and she couldn't put her finger on why until it suddenly hit her like a ton of bricks.
