The unforgettable sound of your alarm wakes you up not long after the sunrise of a new day. As you go to turn off your alarm you realise the date. It was your birthday a day where your friends and family would make sure you felt like the most important person in the world. However you would prefer to spend your birthday reading in the school library as well as visit your favourite book shop. You have always felt different from your friends and family almost as if you didn't belong. There was no physical appearance nor anything weird about you it was just you didn't know why you would get that feeling, but you always try to ignore it or distract yourself whenever you felt that way. Little did you know that there was a reason for that feeling, you just had to unlock it.
You make your way down stairs only to be met with your family and two of your friends shouting you a happy birthday.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY Y/N!" streamers, balloons and confetti appear out of nowhere.
"Ummm, thanks?" you say not even surprised as you were expecting this from them.
"Come on Y/n~ Its your 18th birthday you should be stoked!" your friend Tara exclaimed as she shook you back and forth.
"Tara calm down you know Y/n doesn't like to make a big deal of these sorts of things." a low voice speaks up and you knew that it was your other friend Jake.
After breakfast you, Tara and Jake said goodbye to your parents as they wished you a good day and the three of you were off to school. While Jake and Tara were having a deep chat you were zoning out as you past your favourite book shop. You stop for a moment looking through the shops window in a trance as you hear a loud but soft whisper calling to you. It was like everything was frozen in time except for you. As you look through the window you see a soft glow coming from one of aisles from the row and rows of books.
"Y/n!" you feel a hand on your shoulder and it snapped you out of your trance.
"Are you ok? You zoned out pretty hard on us there." Jake asked as both he and Tara looked at you with concern.
"I'm fine really just got distracted... that's all"
Both Tara and Jake continued with the concerned look in their eyes but soon shrugged it off as they have learnt in the past that if you said you're fine you meant it. As they walk ahead of you, you take one last glance at the bookshop and soon continue to make your way to school a hellish place really but more to do with the students than the learning.
Time skip:
The final bell rang indicating the end of the school day, as you walk out to the front gate you see Tara and Jake waiting for you.
"Hey Y/n wanna head to the convenient store with us?" Tara runs up to you.
"Uhh, actually I'm going to go to the bookshop like right now." you say as you try to unwrap Tara's grip around you. You needed to know what you saw earlier that morning as well as what you heard.
"Fine~" Tara whined.
Jake chuckles. "Alright~ We'll see you tomorrow." He says dragging Tara away and in the direction of the closest convenience store.
After waving goodbye to your friends you turn the opposite direction and start making your way to the bookshop to investigate but also to buy some new books to read. This is what you did after school everyday and it was nice.
*Ding*
The sound of the bell rang as you entered the store and greeted by the old lady who you have grown to know after visiting the shop for the past 3 years. The smell of scented candles never got old. Salted caramel and Sandalwood the only two candles the old lady used but you didn't mind it made you feel comfortable and safe. You start having a look around forgetting why you originally came in until the old lady walked up to you and handed you a book. It wasn't very sizable yet the weight was almost unusual for its size.
"Happy birthday Y/n. This gift is for you sweet child."
"Mrs Jones you didn't have to let me pay for-"
"Nonsense it's time you have this." And with that she walked away to complete some more tasks before she closed shop for the day.
You waved goodbye to Mrs Jones and made you way to the one place where you could be alone to start the book Mrs Jones so generously gave you. As you continued to walk you could hear the trickle of water indicating you were close to your destination and not long you arrived at the place only you knew about a little pond with a small waterfall that drizzles into the pond along rocks and plants surrounding you.
Taking a seat by the edge of a pond you open the book only to be met with strange writing set within the pages. As you try to decipher the contents of the mysterious book something felt off as you continued to flick through the pages until you turned to a page where the words and letters changed and moved gracefully. All of a sudden the words formed what at the time seemed like a poem.
"From a world of magic to a world of none
The time will come, a time where an adventure turns to purpose in life
The lost child will come to rise again and save both worlds
Our Guardian Angel
The last of the Guardians"
After reading those words out loud something strange was happening in the water. It looked like there were sparkles of something unknown to you and it was quickly spreading as a whirlpool was forming in the water. Before you knew it you sucked into what you assumed to be a portal of some sort.
The sound birds chirping and a breeze slowly helped you gain your awareness as you open your eyes. You awoke in the exact same place as where you were however this place was slightly different the plants looked bigger and more colourful, there were some very colourful birds and fish so much so that it was strange to you and as you look for your belongings they were nowhere to be seen all except for the book Mrs Jones gave to you. After you try to make sense of what was happening you heard yelling coming from somewhere nearby along with a loud rawr. You stand up and turn around only to be met with a man with purple scarring along his lower jaw and chest.
"Well, well..." A sinister voice coming from the strange looking man.
"What's a sweet looking thing like you doing out here? Little Mouse~"
