"Wei Wuxian, wake up."
Among all the screams and wails he heard an unfamiliar voice calling for him. He slowly opened his eyes to see a young boy standing in front of me as the screams died down slowly.
"Who are you?" Wei Wuxian asked noticing that he was no longer in that dark place but was in a dimly lit room.
The ground was littered with papers, talismans, broken furniture, and other junk. It looked like a storage room.
As he looked down to where they were standing, he saw an array. They both are standing in the middle of an array that looked like it was drawn in haste.
It was crooked and very badly drawn but Wei Wuxian have seen much worse things anyway. He found the array familiar but couldn't pinpoint where he had seen it.
Suddenly, realization struck him like lightning as he recognized that it's a soul-sacrificing ritual array and the boy in front of him had summoned his soul. How can it even be possible? Except for three or four people, no one has ever performed this technique in history.
The person who performs this has to draw the array with their own blood. Then they can summon a resentful spirit to complete their wish and the person's soul will be exchanged with the summoned soul. But Wei Wuxian is not a resentful spirit. In fact, one can never find a spirit as peaceful as him anywhere.
But how can this young boy summon him? Many questions lingered in his mind as he took in his surroundings carefully.
From what he knew, those few people who performed this technique till now had all asked for revenge and he guessed that the boy's wish might be the same too.
That means the boy will offer him his body and Wei Wuxian have to complete his wish. If he fails to complete his wish within the certain time limit, both of their souls will be perished with no way to reincarnate again. Just thinking of it made his spine shiver with unknown fear.
If Wei Wuxian fulfilled his wish, then the boy's soul will get peace and Wei Wuxian can continue to live in his new body.
There is also another important rule. The soul that was summoned will have to forget whatever has happened after their death once the deal is sealed. His face paled as he recalled this rule.
If he forgets everything that happened, he will also have to forget all those things that he heard from Lan Wangji after his death, including his feelings for Lan Wangji and Lan Wangji's feelings for him.
His feelings, his confessions, his pain, his love. He will have to forget everything.
Even though he can remember his past life, he doesn't know how long it might take for him to meet his Lan Zhan again.
Even if they meet, there is no guarantee that Lan Wangji will recognize him. There is no guarantee that he will realize his feelings for Lan Wangji again.
When he reincarnates into the young man's body, he might even still be thinking that Lan Wangji is against him for cultivating resentment energy. He might still be thinking that Lan Wangji is just a friend to him. What if he avoided him and pushed him away again like he did in his past life?
He mind was in chaos with his overwhelming thoughts that he started to panic and frantically searched for an alternative to not lose his memories.
However he doesn't know what else to do anymore as he just hoped he won't be as idiotic and stupid as he was in his previous life.
However it was not permanent. His memories will only be locked away until he finishes the task given to him. If he completes it sooner, he could get his memories back sooner. He let out a sigh in relief, slowly calming down his mind and pulling himself together.
The only doubt right now is that how difficult could the task be that this young man especially summoned the Yiling patriarch to finish it?
He asked the young man again. "Who are you? Why did you summon my soul?"
"Wei wuxian, take revenge for me! Take revenge for me!!! Kill them all!!" he exclaimed loudly.
Before he could even process his words anything his head started pounding again. This time much worse than before, like someone is crushing his head, as if his soul is being shredded into pieces and he was being pulled into a vacuum.
He instinctively held his head tightly as he felt himself getting heavier. That's when he knew he is no longer just a soul but was sucked into the body of the young man. His head felt heavy and fuzzy as if someone was taking away a piece of his mind and he lost consciousness.
