I paced the floor until Detective Baker arrived. The squeak of the hinges as the door opened jarred me out of my trance, and my gaze was met by his concerned face. I began to reiterate what I'd said on the phone as he walked around the room. He picked up a few of my autopsy tools and examined them as I babbled on. When he finished his round through the morgue, he met me in the middle and listened to the rest of my story before stepping out of the room to dial the forensics team. When he returned, he and the rest of the team began dusting for prints and taking photos of the scene. They found nothing out of the ordinary, just the prints of myself and Tom, but that was to be expected. Detective Baker pulled me aside amidst the chaos of the team's search efforts and questioned me again.

'You're sure you didn't do anything for his autopsy last night? No pre-procedure prep or anything?' he asked, his eyebrow starting to raise at me.

'No, sir, and if I had, it wouldn't have been to cut his heart out.' I sort of laughed at myself for being so frank as the words left my mouth.

'Right,' the detective continued, his eyes throwing a sharp glance toward me. 'Well, whoever was in here knew what they were doing. I mean... no prints, no sign of forced entry, no mess left behind, no anything. I guess we officially have a case.'

'Uh, yeah,' I replied, unsure of what to say next.

'I'll be in later today, just hold off on doing his autopsy for a little bit, okay?' he asked.

'Okay, uh, let me know if you need anything. I'm here to help,' I replied.

The detective looked me up and down before nodding, then he spun around and exited the morgue, the investigation team following close behind.
