The Princess of Friendship was no exception to all the ponies who persevered, and no assignment ensnared her. Day or night, (which was her duty to rule as well), her hooves were entangled in the load of sheets and scrolls she would carefully analyze, indulging her day to day routine. 'I could stay in my studies all day', as she had told Princess Celestia one, was true, sure. However, when there were ignorant ponies outside your castle doors every day demanding justice over the tiniest little laws (that were a necessity matter of fact), a daily tingle in your horn reminding you of the duty to give day and night to your subjects, and an endless abyss of paperwork to complete daily it was sure to get a rise out of you.
Twilight groaned angrily. In her exhaustion, she had been using her teeth to add her signature instead of her horn. She was hunched over her desk, the familiar feeling of her eyes weighing down putting more strain on her mind, bringing her body even lower to the wood. The desire of sleep to overcome her and lull her into her silk sheets almost brought tears to her eyes, and she forced herself to surrender the pencil to the paper, signing. It was monotonous, her schedule had never seized to a halt or a period of time where she would finally be able to relax her muscles or stretch out her back hooves. Not even to soothe her hunger. Blue hair covered the dulled purple eyes- dancing and covering them momentarily almost as if it were a mockery.
The council of friendship was the only escape she had from rising out of bed in a miserable state, instantly lowering herself onto the cold throne. Even then, it was to discuss matters on the state of Equestria instead of talking about her friends lives. Oh, her friends- how she adored them, those colorful manifestations of pure bliss that took the form of ponies. The things she would do just to hear Applejack boast about her new fritter sales, what she would give to watch Fluttershy mess with her pink hair as she listened to the girls speak. The thoughts pulled a low growl from her throat and her hooves dragged on the desk like a plow on a field.
The weight of her mental exhaustion and the cries of her body all screamed at her. The mellow, dimly lit room seemed to close. Her friends, all of them- she held such an admiration for the mares. And such a jealousy for being able to live out mortal lives and spend time with eachother that it brought tears to her eyes.
She clasped a hoof on the desk, an uncomfortable force filling her throat, burning it. A fuzzy cloud filled the space in her head, inserting itself into the preexisting burdens causing a collapse of anguished cries to erupt from her throat right as she moved the papers from in front of her. This was not rare. She was in a state of awareness of her immortality every sunrise and every sunset. The last magic spark of the most important element of harmony and friendship would fall down, and so would she; the princess of friendship who was destined to be without friends. And so she was. Or wasn't.
Her breakdown didn't last more than a mere few seconds before she heard the familiar sound of trotting echoing in the dark hallways. Twilights muzzle formed into a snarl, the fur lining her spine rising as her hooves dug into the wood. The chains of her position dragged her down as an adult covering a child's mouth, and she swallowed her tears, leaving behind her souls needs to place her as a princess. To deal with whatever the cursed pony that was inching closer to her castle study room would want to say or degrade her with as if she wasn't the highest rank in equestria. As if she didn't know how to rule.
There was a level of uncertainty with that.
She had not known she made an anguished noise of dismay as she dragged her hand to press down on the risen fur lining her back. It only took a few words of degrading herself in her head for her to calm, the force of suppressed emotions laid dormant but could still be switched on if tested in the moment. The trotting closed in and lead to the front of her unnecessarily long doors- Twilight had to force her ears to rise from the pinned position they were in on her skull. She could barely see the moonlight shining in from under the door and the ponies' hooves blocking some of the light. Her room had no illumination except the moonlight pouring in front of her desk. She gritted her teeth together putting on her mask of elegance.
Creaaaak.
The door let out a low growl as it intruded her space. Twilight stood tall, her purple eyes relaxed in a commanding and warm gaze onto the door that was stood in front of her; the blue hair was in a bit of an akward stage as it had only began to float and sparkle. It flew like how it was years ago, only in movement and a few inches had been added in length. Her crown stood placed behind her growing horn, topping off the princess. If only she could be anything but- she wished sometimes. The position drowned her, coaxing her in an inhonest image.
Dishonesty.
"Twilight?" Such a chirpy and high voice would pull the mare out of any internal conflict. A force pulled against her heart, a wind knocking out of her lungs like a hurricane. She had barely noticed she made a noise, nor noticed the surprised recoil of her friend.
"..Oh my- what happened?" Pinkies hoof cranked up to the latter's frigid cheek.
The thoughts in either heads had acted like a switch. Such a force pulled both of them down into a pool of uncertainty and familiarity. For all twilight knew every lantern or fire had perished with the wind, rivaling in a furious fight with the sparkle that entered her eyes whenever she laid eyes upon the pony she loved so dearly a moisture came into her eyes once more. The hoof
