          "SO, STAR, HOW'S OSCAR been?"

Stella choked on her smoothie bowl. "What?"

The question from her father had been an innocent one. They were out at breakfast, in some small bookshop-cafe, catching up as they often did. Sometimes Stella's stepmom, Brittny, would join them, or even Stella's younger siblings, but that morning, it was just Jenson. Stella was grateful for it, her brain was a mess, and she didn't need more than her father's prying eyes to notice it.

The thing making her mind a mess, or rather, the person, was the one her dad had just decided to mention. It was like he could read her mind. Stella was certain Jenson somehow knew, he knew that strange thing happening in Stella's mind. Her jealousy, her... feelings.

Was that why he'd asked about Oscar? How could he possibly know?

Or, more likely, it was that he always asked her about Oscar. But now, with Stella's newfound opinions surrounding Oscar, she actually noticed.

"How's Oscar?" Jenson repeated, downing the rest of his espresso shot. "And Logan too, for that matter. You know, with starting F1 and everything?"

"Oh." Stella shook her head slightly, letting out a relieved sigh. Her father didn't know. At least she hoped. "You're talking about that."

"What else would I have been talking about?" Jenson raised an eyebrow, giving his daughter an intrigued look.

"Nothing, nothing." Stella waved an absentminded hand through the air, taking another bite of her smoothie bowl. "Sorry, I'm just all scatter brained right now. I was at the studio so late last night. They're doing great, as far as I know. Settling in well, Oscar especially. He gets on great with Lando. Logan and Alex are good friends too."

"That's amazing to hear." Jenson nodded happily, reaching over to pluck a blueberry from his daughter's breakfast, tossing it into his mouth. "There's nothing worse than being stuck with a teammate you hate."

"Yeah." Stella agreed, her voice trailing off slightly. Her mind was already back on Oscar, on trying to decipher whatever the hell was going on between them. Or rather, whatever the hell was going on with her, seeing as nothing had happened between her and Oscar.

"You alright, Star?" Jenson asked, snapping Stella back to reality. "You seem a bit... distracted."

"Yeah, I'm alright dad, I swear." Stella assured her father, forcing a smile onto her glossed lips for good measure. "Just tired."

"You know, you can tell me if something's up." Jenson wore a concerned look. "I'm your dad."

"I know." Stella let out a heaving sigh. If she was going to tell anyone, she supposed it should be her dad. He had known her longer than anyone else, and she was dying to get it off her chest. "It's nothing serious, it's just... dad, I think I'm in love with Oscar..."

"Oh! Well that's new."

Stella didn't miss his sarcasm. She scoffed, folding her arms over her chest defensively. "Well don't act like you already knew! I barely know myself!"

"Honey." Jenson raised an eyebrow as if to say oh, please.

"I might not be in love with him."

"Honey."

"I might not be!" Stella insisted. Suddenly, her smoothie bowl seemed rather unappetizing, and she pushed it away. Her stomach was churning. "What if this is just the first time I'm realizing how hot he is? It's normal for girls to be attracted to their guy friends."
