Time seemed like it paused, the slight ticking of the clock reminding me of the silence as the harsh beats in my chest quickened with while my body seemed to remember what it felt like when Ryan kissed my skin with softness. Red tented my cheeks but thankfully the darkness covered its traces of the blush on my skin, rolling onto my side where what was left of the night remained its shadows on the end of my bed. A ding rung through the room as the screen on my phone lit up to a text, rolling back over to grab the phone noticing it was a text from Ryan. "Are you awake?" the text popped up on my screen as I unlocked the phone before replying.

"yes" the ball of nerves in my stomach got tighter as the three dots bounded on his side before, he replied "meet at our spot?" he asked.

Sitting up my fingers typed out a reply before I could think it through "meet you there". Sitting up while quietly slipping out of my room and down the hall, the stairs creaked lowly under my feet as I sucked in a breath at each creak freezing in my spot to listen for any noises then continued down the stairs silently until I made it to the front door. Leaning down to grab my boots with one hand and the other quietly unlocked then opened the door, my body squeezing through the gap keeping the door half open to keep it from making noise and letting the door silently close behind me with a light tap against the old wood frame. Creeping down the front steps once again to slip on my boots quietly bouncing from one foot to the other. Running to the barn where the horses were sleeping for the night, flicking on the barn light as my gaze turned to the left where a mare horse stood aware in her stable.

"Hi girl" I whispered watching her snort and flick her ears towards me in acknowledgment, smiling while grabbing her lead off the wall where the other horse equipment as I held it up for her to see "want to go for a ride?" I asked. She flicked her tail pacing backwards a few steps when I opened her stall door slipping the headpiece over her head with one hand and the other rubbed her neck before taking hold of the reins. Taking the brown mare out of the stall next to a wooden fence to climb onto her bare back, rubbing her neck once again leaning forward "let's go good girl" I say in a hushed voice. She took off out the side of the barn away from the house in the direction my hands guided her reins to as the early morning air kissed my skin like a lover, the silence filled my ears as the mare's hooves made contact with the dirt.

Soon enough the clearing opened up and parked in the middle of the field by a old tree was a pickup truck that belonged to Ryan, the country station playing music softly from his radio played through the cracked open window. Lightly pulling on the reins till she stopped a few feet away from the truck catching the attention of Ryan whose face was brightened by the truck head lights. "Hey stranger" Ryan said after a few seconds of silence jumping off the tailgate of his truck walking in my direction, the boy that shared majority of our childhood together wore a button up shirt that was tucked into his blue jeans, that were also tucked over his brown worn boots with a black cowboy hat hugged his head "hi" the words barely left my lips. Swinging my leg over the side off the mare landing on the ground with the reins in my hand forcing myself to not look at my best friend and guided my horse to the tree where I wrapped her rein around a branch securing it as she leaned down and munched on the grass around the tree base flicking her tail.

I could feel his presence behind me, drowning me in his cologne and the smell of freshly cut grass coming off his clothes that I secretly liked but would never admit it to his face "Jen" His voice broke the silence reminding me of the events that was going to take place in the morning, turning towards him where my gaze looked up at his body that towered over me. "I don't want to leave like this" Ryan sighed licking his lips turning his attention to the distance with his fingers running through his short but soft hair before bringing his gaze back to me "I know... I'm just not ready to say goodbye" the words that spoke truth broke from my lips as a series of sobs followed after. Ryan pulled my shanking body and wrapped his arms around me where the warmth coming off him calmed my body as he rubbed my back waiting for my sobs to calm before we walked over to his track.
