summer playlist

nick and i were driving back up to his house from the grocery store, as we added songs and listened to our summer playlist, which we created a few weeks ago when we planned for our upcoming vacation.

"no way we are adding this song." nick said from the drivers seat, immediately turning down the music and looking over to me. i laughed and turned it back up, this time louder than before.
"shut up, i'm jamming out!" i yelled over the music, seconds before he just turned it off completely.

i sarcastically sighed, throwing my head back. we both turned our head to eachothers, and immediately started laughing. hanging out with nick made me feel like a kid again.

"it's an alright song, but it doesn't feel summer-
y." he said, emphasizing with his free hand that wasn't on the wheel. i scoffed and grabbed my phone, looking on spotify for more songs to add to the playlist. we had a good few songs that we agreed on adding to it, and it was about an hour long. our favorite song though, which we both agreed on, was passionfruit by drake, a song we both used to love listening to together a few years ago. maybe it was the nostalgia, or maybe just the vibes, that made it feel so summery.

"seriously though, y/n," nick started, peaking my attention. i looked up from my phone and turned to him. "-have you picked up any dating apps yet? it's getting kinda sad that i have a more thrilling love life than you." he joked.

i clicked my teeth. even though i wasn't saying anything, all i could think about was his brother. growing up with nick also meant growing up with chris and matt, and chris has always peaked my attention. i've always been interested in him, but i never spoke about it to anybody. i feared losing my friendships with the triplets if i said anything. i was also just not in the right place for getting rejected right now.

"well." i said, looking straight forward out the window, my eyes glued on the sunset in front of us. "i don't know, i haven't really thought about dating. i'm not really interested at the moment, i'm not sure i would even have time for a relationship." my mind could not stop drifting from the thought of chris, no matter how hard i try to push it to the back of my head.

"all boys do is play mind games and lie. i feel like this generation is incapable of actual love." i added to my previous statements, looking over to nick to see how he's reacting.

he cracked a small laugh, looking over at me for a split second before returning his focus to the road. "you're definitely right on that one." he said. we laughed together as he pulled in to their driveway. as i opened my door to get out, i saw chris emerge from the front door and run up to nick.

"NICK! our 2023 recap video is already doing so well!" chris said. the smile he had on his face in that moment reminded me of the christopher sturniolo i used to jump on the trampoline with back in elementary school. his smile and laughter is really so contagious.

i smiled as i opened the trunk of the car to get groceries out. it was funny to see chris so excited about this video, because i knew it was one of the only ones that nick would let him and matt edit.

nick and chris start walking over to the trunk and once chris sees me, he comes up to me and hugs me from the side since i'm grabbing bags. i hug him back to the best of my abilities with my hands full. "it's good to see you y/n!" chris greeted me, a wide smile plastered on his face.
"hey chris! it's good to see you too." chris helped nick and i with the rest of the groceries, since none of us wanted to take a second trip to get more bags, that's for sure.

i looked around for a moment after closing the trunk. "chris, where's matt?" chris looks around for a moment, and i'm going to guess that he thought matt was already outside. "i'm assuming that he's inside on his lazy ass." i laugh and walk inside, nick and chris following suit.

we walk inside and place the bags on the counter. "i'm gonna go see what matt is doing, alright?" i say. they nod and start putting stuff away as i stepped out the kitchen, and made my way upstairs to matt's room.

i hear shuffling around and knock on the door, and waited for a response from matt. "hm?" he hummed. i opened the door and popped my head inside. "oh, hey y/n!" matt said, immediately smiling and standing up when he saw me. he was wearing black sweatpants and a tank top that clung to his body, his hair slightly messed up. he opened the door the rest of the way and i walked in and plopped myself on his bed. "what are you up to?" i say. i scanned his room, which was covered in an assortment of clothes, shoes, and other random things. in the corner of the room was a suitcase.

he sighed and looked around at the mess he made, planting his hands on his hips. "i'm trying to find outfits for when we go to hawaii, but i'm obviously struggling." he joked. i laughed a little as i spoke, "i could help. go try on outfits and i can tell you if you should bring them or not." he looked over at me and smiled, slightly tilting his head. "it could be like a little fashion show."
