Ch. 12: Grim's Loopholes

"Suyeon! Suyeon, thank goodness, you're safe!" Hyunjin cries out upon finding the young woman outside the house of one of her brother's house.

The young woman turns to him as soon as she hears his voice, but before she could even comprehend the utter relief in his voice, Suyeon finds herself in a tight embrace. She raises her brows as she speaks, though now she's become alarmed with how scared her friend seemed to have become. "Hyunjin... what's wrong?"

Hyunjin freezes for a moment as he realizes how his actions may affect Suyeon, and he stops and thinks for a moment, before he slowly pulls away and smiles nervously. "N-nothing... I just heard about what happened last night."

"Oh, is that so?" Suyeon asks in return, her curious expression still remaining, before she smiles softly. "Well, there's really no need for you to worry. You were right. Youngtaek was watching over me the whole time."

"Really?" Hyunjin's expression eventually turns into a relieved smile, before he turns his gaze only for his expression to quickly fall. The atmosphere around them feels a bit too empty. "Wait a minute... So where's..." He quickly stops himself before Suyeon realizes what he's about to say.

"Hmm?" she asks, however, and Hyunjin's eyes widen before he quickly tries to cover up what he just said again.

"Nothing. Nothing! I just thought you'd be out here with your brother or something since you were visiting."

"Oh," Suyeon's expression then changes into a sad smile as she looks down. "Yeah... let's just say they were busy."

Hyunjin's expression falls again. "... Oh. Do you wanna... talk about it?"

"No, it's fine," Suyeon tells him in response as she wears a smile on her face. "Let's just go home first."

"Oh... Right. Let's."

Eventually, they begin walking, but before they do, Hyunjin looks around one last time just to confirm. No one else is in sight. Not a human. Not a grim reaper...

Just where exactly had Death gone to?

"JANGJUN!!" Death's voice rung out in a dangerous tone throughout the lobby upon his entrance.

The obvious rage in his voice and his sudden entrance was, of course, bound to scare whoever was in the lobby at the time. And who those are would be...

Disaster.

Vanity.

Fallacy.

Thievery...

And Mischief.

Every one of them jumps at the sound of Death's voice, but the last one turns his head and looks to his friend in confusion, before Death suddenly grabs him by his collar.

"You! You're the one who told the others about the human, aren't you?! That's why you remained silent when we agreed not to let the others know!" With his eyes glowing a bright red, Death confronted Mischief, the latter of which has his eyes wide in shock, before he furrows his brows in utter confusion.

"What are you talking about–"

"Don't lie to me! You're the only who didn't make a deal to keep your mouth shut! Everyone else did! You're the only one who didn't say a word!"

The tension quickly rose inside the room, alarming the other Messengers especially when they notice Death's glowing eyes.

Fallacy gathers the courage to reduce the tension first, as he slowly approaches the two and places a shaking hand on Death's shoulder. "Y-Youngtaek... C-calm down. It-it wasn't Jangjun who spread the information. W-we all know because we heard it from our apprentices..." He flinches and freezes, however, when Death whips his head towards him. As a response, Fallacy quickly removes his hand from the higher Messenger's shoulder, before he glances towards Jangjun who now looks just as upset as Death.
