Growing up as the daughter of a two-time Formula One World Champion, Liliana Camila Alonso was no stranger to the high-pressure world of motorsport. From a young age, she spent countless weekends in the paddock, immersed in the whirlwind of races, rivalries, and roaring engines.
During her childhood, Liliana formed a tight-knit bond with two boys who, like her, had racing in their blood: Mick Schumacher and Carlos Sainz Jr. Constantly crossing paths in the paddock, the three became inseparable. However, her friendship with Carlos grew slightly closer, thanks to their shared Spanish roots and the friendship between their fathers, Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz Sr.
Carlos and Liliana were childhood best friends, often seen running through the paddock, sneaking into restricted areas, and causing harmless trouble that occasionally exasperated their parents. Their five-year age gap never posed a barrier; Carlos took on a protective role, but their friendship was built on laughter, shared experiences, and an unspoken understanding of the pressures of their world.
Despite her love for the atmosphere of Formula One, Liliana never dreamed of becoming a driver herself. Her reluctance stemmed from the traumatic memory of her father's crash with Esteban Gutiérrez in 2007 when she was just eight years old. For two seasons, she stayed away from the paddock entirely, battling panic attacks triggered by the sound of engines and the thought of potential danger.
Diagnosed with a panic disorder, Liliana leaned heavily on the support of her loved ones, especially Carlos and Mick. Through therapy and their unwavering encouragement, she slowly overcame her fears and rediscovered her passion for motorsport.
By the time she turned 15, Liliana decided to channel her love for Formula One into a career in motorsport journalism. With her father's connections, at the age of 17 she landed an internship at Sky Sports F1, diving headfirst into the world she once avoided.
Now 22, Liliana thrives as a journalist, earning respect for her insightful coverage and building strong friendships with the drivers she grew up with. Her bond with Carlos remains one of the most special parts of her life—a friendship forged in childhood and strengthened over the years, rooted in trust, understanding, and the shared legacy of their families.
