A bittersweet apology

Unexpected visit

The empty streets of Fontaine at night were all too familiar to Furina, yet though it seems as if nothing changed over the last couple weeks her whole world came crashing down after that one trial. Furina tought her pain would be over once she was finally free but the loneliness inside her never truly dissapeared.

I shouldnt be complaining, the prophecy is long over and my- the people of Fontaine are saved. The one thing i wanted to be true for as long as i can remember. But now i have no need anymore i can't do anything like this, ive wanted to be a normal human for so long but now that i am i don't feel needed anymore. A loud knock on her door broke Furina's endless train of thoughts. Who could be here at this hour she wondered. Are you home, miss Furina? Furina would recognise the knave's voice anywhere, why would she be here and why her of all people? It is impolite to not answer the door but knowing the knave she won't have good intentions.

What's wrong with me am I really about to let her enter my house, how did she even find this place? Did Neuvilette give her my new address? No he wouldn't right? She let out a huge sigh and finally opened the door. What do you want? Furina asked the knave quite rudely wanting nothing more than for Arlecchino to leave. Calm down miss Furina I am only here to apologise. Apologise? Furina questioned. Yes, you do remember when I tried to take your gnosis. I wanted to apologise for scaring you that night. This revelation left Furina shocked, the knave was about the last person she expected to visit her none the less apologise.

Furina, she heard the knave call out to her in a more soft tone than how she would normally speak. If you're not ready to accept my apology I can understand but atleast take this cake as a gift. Wait cake? Furina got exited hearing the mention of her favourite food she hadn't had cake in such a long time. Nowadays she usually ate more simple meals like macaroni. She wasn't able to afford expensive cakes like the luxury chocolate cake Arlecchino brought her. Maybe she would give the knave a change to come in not like it was only for the cake or anything. Alright you can come in and we can talk. Furina finally said breaking the silence between the two.

Thank you miss Furina. Furina kept quiet ignoring the knave while leading her to the couch in her living room. Arlecchino put down the chocolate cake onto the side table and silently sat down on the couch next to Furina. For a while there was an akward silence between the two woman. Furina, I was in the wrong that evening meaning to take the gnosis I scared you. I could have done this in another way I acted out of fear for the lives of the children from the house of the hearth. Still the harm and pain I caused you was wrong allow me to apologise for that. Furina stayed silent not because she was mad just confused on the kind words Arlecchino just said to her. How could she be sure that the knave wasn't trying to reach something else. Were there ulterior motives to the knaves words and actions just now? Furina didn't know, yet Arlecchino's words sounded so sincere.
