Chapter Eight
"We know who shot the sheriff."

That night JohnB and Lily met up with the others, Kie took her mom's car to have transportation. Lily was in the passenger seat trying her best not to fall asleep, Pope was coughing because he was smoking a blunt, JJ was in the very back starting conversation, JB was sitting there with silence, and Kie was listening to JJ yap.

"Im just gonna be real with you right now. You might end up in the lions den, but you don't go there on purpose." JJ says patting JohnB on the shoulder, "It's fundamental, just like our old man always told us, you should never ever trust cops." the blond boy continues.

"And no matter what the circumstance is." Lily adds, resting her hand on her face. "Your old man's an abusive liar." Kie joins in, "I agree with the twins. Fuck the police." Pope says, "Your going to the dark side now?" the brown haired girl asks. "When's the last time the police helped us?"

"Peterkin looked out for me, all right? Tried to, at least. They need to know." JohnB speaks up looking at Kie. They all nod and JB opens the door and shuts it behind him. "Lily, you were with him. Go." Kie says, the blond haired girl opens the car door and walks to the station. They walk to the front desk, "It's not a good time kids." the lady says pushing buttons on a radio.

"We know who shot the sheriff." Lily says getting annoyed with the woman, she takes off her glasses and looks at them both. "Yall stay put. I'll get a deputy." the lady gets up and rushes off, Lily and JB look at each other and hear speaking on the radio. "We have a suspect in our 31, John Routledge and Lily Maybank." the two walk up closer confused. Lily felt her heart drop, "Copy that. All units, be on the lookout for John B Routledge and Lily M Maybank." the other person says.

"Two sixteen male and female, male six foot, female five' five, last seen wearing board shorts, a "Bad Brains" T-Shirt, red hoodie, and female wearing blue jean shorts, black T-shirt." the two feel adrenaline rush in them, the look to see a cop walk in. "Just breathe. All right." Deputy Plumb says. "Let me see your hands." the other cop says,
they both raise their hands in the air with the sheriffs blood on them.

"Look, we didn't, we didn't do it. Okay?" JohnB says with a shaky voice, Lily backs up, "Don't move!" the cop yells, Lily and JB both run out the building. "Kie start the car!" Lily yells throwing herself over the hood and get into the truck. "What did yall do?" they yell panicking, "Shit. Go Kie!" Lily yells, "Kie, drive, Go!" JB adds. Plumb trys to open the car, Kie drives off making Plumb run after the car. "Open it." Pope yells. JohnB opens the door making the cop face plant on the floor. They all stay silent, nothing but loud breathing.

"Rafe, stop!" Ward yells, "I don't need your help right now. I didn't need it then, I don't need it now. I just need to think! So, please go clean up!" he finishes turning around, "You understand right?" Rafe says, his eyes form with tears, Ward sighs and turns around. "You understand?" Rafe asks again.

"Understand what, Rafe?"

"Why I did it." Rafe takes a pause with tears rolling down his face, "You were in trouble, and I was protecting you. Okay? Look, me dad." he adds pointing at himself. "Not Sarah, okay? It was me. Ward walks up to him and cups his face, and pulls him into a hug making Rafe feel loved, "I'm sorry." Ward whispers holding his son. "I love you." he adds kissing his cheek.

That morning they all stayed hidden under an abandoned building carport, listing to the radio. They hear police sirens pass by, Kie looks at Lily who is trying to get sleep, and JB who is staring at the roof, she shuts off the radio. "Let's game this out. Maybe you guys can help, bring the smart ones, but who are the cops going to believe? Ward Cameron or us?" JJ speaks up, "Shit." Pope says rubbing his eyes, "Yucatán, all right? I'm saying that's the only option." JJ adds nodding to himself.

"Jay, enough with the Mexico bullshit. Sarah will bail us out." Lily says turning the opposite way to face them, "She did witness the whole thing." Kie adds. "And she's gonna snitch on her brother?" Pope asks, "We've gotta get yall off the island, even though I don't like my sister being some place else." JJ says sitting up and looking at the brown haired boy. "The ferry. It's the only way." Pope says, "Guys, just get down." Kie says looking at the rear mirror to see multiple police cars pass by. "Sarah's not a pouge, Lily." Pope says looking back at her.

Kie arrives at the ferry and JohnB and Lily continue to lay down, Pope walks back to the car walking weird. "Can you act normal?" Kie asks, "The ferry's closed, and there's this." Pope says getting into the car handing a paper to Kie. "What is it?" JB asks, Kie hands it to JJ. "Well this is a good framer of yall." the blond boy says facing the paper towards them.

"Again, fuck my life." Lily mumbles, "Okay, so the whole islands looking for them right now." the black haired boy says looking at Kie, "That's a lot of money." the girl replies. "Congratulations, yall are famous." JJ says giving the paper to his sister. "We got to get to the HMS. We need small, no running lights-" "It's at the Chateau Kie." Johnb speaks up.

"And I wonder if the cops go the entire place staked out? Let me think, oh yeah. No." Lily asks being sarcastic, "They definitely have that place locked down." the other twins adds. "Let me think. Just give me a second." Pope says shutting his eyes. "JJ. Does your dad still have that boat? The cigarette boat, the Phantom." he says turning around. "Maybe."

"You could get right up the coast, no problem." Pope says turning around and turning the engine, "I don't know where the keys are." JJ says squinting his eyes, "Well find them." Pope says looking at the cars ahead of him, "Dads necklace, he has it around his neck. All of his keys." Lily says looking at her brother who nods. "Why is nobody moving forward?" Pope says getting agitated, "JJ, how much weed did you give him?" Kie asks. "Guys, your cars on the poster." JB says. Pope starts honking multiple times, "Can we move it?"

"Look, mom. It's that guy. Right there." A little boy says pointing at the car. "Fucking snitch, that's why I pushed the kid off a dock." Lily says looking up a bit at the boy. "We got a snitch, Pope go." JJ says, multiple people start walking towards the car. "We get twenty five thousand if we find him!" the kid yells, a man hits the window making them jump. "There right there!" the man says making everyone outside look at the car.

"I found him first!" "Hell you did, you little bastard!"

Pope trys to turn the engine again making the car bump into the van ahead of him. "Pope just go!" JJ yells, Pope drives onto the grass apologizing, he gets onto the road and bumps into the mailboxes. He laughs but Kie screams, "What the fuck!" Lily shouts rubbing her head. "I'm living my best life now."

Pope slams on the breaks and looks in the back, "Yall get out." he says making them look confused, "He's right, yall run and we'll draw the cops. I'll get the rig, and I'll meet you in the dump tomorrow, okay? Three tomorrow at the dump." JJ says locking eyes with his sister. They get out and run some place random. They hop into a backyard, but turn a different direction when a siren goes off ahead of them.

Authors note: I thought I would be gone for 3 weeks but it got canceled so thought I should post again. This chapter don't has much Rafe in it but next chapter will.
