They walked for a few more hours until they came upon a road. Halfway down the road they came across a group of German soldiers being held by a couple members of the Airborne.

"Morning sir." Winters said to one of men guarding the prisoners.

"Battalion sure will be happy to see you guys." The man said to them.

"Where?" Winters asked.

"At the farm, sir."

"Top of the mornin' to ya fellas. Enjoying the war?" Malarkey said to the prisoners in an Irish accent. He had stayed behind to talk to one of the prisoners he seemed to recognize.

"Hey Malarkey, stop fraternizing with the enemy! Get over here!" Mariah yelled. He didn't follow.

They rounded the corner and onto the farm. The first thing they were greeted with was a pile of dead horses. Her family lived off of the animals on the farm, she was used to seeing death, but this was different. It made her sad.

As they came up on a group of men sitting on a small hill Mariah heard her name being called. She turned her head to see Luz smiling and standing up. "Thank god you made it, Liebgott wouldn't shut the fuck up."

"I wonder if she's ok."

"I hope she made it."

"Do you think she made it?"

Mariah felt a blush creep up her neck and settle in her cheeks. If Mariah was being honest, she was thinking the same thing about him. She was happy to see that he had.

"Come, sit. Tell us about your journey." Luz said, ushering her to the same small hill that he was previously sat upon.

"You make it sound like I just got back from vacation." Mariah laughed, sitting down. She immediately began telling Luz about what had transpired since he last saw her. "Oh, and I now have this." Mariah pulled the pistol out of her bag and showed it to Luz.

"Where'd you get that?" Luz asked, taking the gun and looking at it.

"We came across a small cottage and unfortunately there was a paratrooper dead in a tree. We had to scrounge for extra supplies and Winters gave me his pistol. He said he felt uneasy about me being out here with no protection."

"The Germans aren't gonna know what hit em' now that you've got a gun." Luz laughed.

Mariah laid down on her back, her legs sore from all the walking. "Don't fall asleep on me." Luz said, poking the girls face.

"STOP THAT!" Mariah yelled. By that time Winters, Buck, Liebgott, and a few other men sat down beside the two.

"Aw come on Luz, let the girl rest a little." Buck said.

Malarkey also joined the group. "Hey Malark where's the best chow?" Malarkey didn't say a word, he just drank from his canteen. Mariah found this odd as he always had something to say. "What's up Malarkey?"

"What do you guys know about Spiers?" He asked.

"Not much, why do you ask?"

"No reason." Malarkey said. Liebgott and Mariah, both gave each other a look. A few moments later Winters came over the group.

"I need Easy Company to come with me to the barn, medics can sit the one out for today. I want you both here to go over inventory." Winters said.

"Are you sure sir?" Eugene asked.
