One day the Thratt family went on a road trip to Florida as they were driving a drunk driver swerved around on the road and caused the car to flip. Vanessa and Rachel luckily survived the crash with only being knocked out. They woke up to find that their parents were killed. There was a police investigation but Vanessa and Rachel had to go to a foster home in Texas. Once they were introduced to their foster parents they were immediately put to work cleaning the house. They lived with nine other children. All were mean but one and her name was Lucy. Lucy had a similar story. She only lived with her dad because her mom had died when she was 3 years old. Her dad was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer and died two months after. She had been in the foster home for two years.
