The city hummed with life as Mina Suarez hurried through the crowded streets. She paused at a dimly lit alley, fumbling for her phone as a message blinked upon the screen.
"James, nasaan ka?" she murmured, her voice barely audible over the din.
A reply came swiftly, cryptic and unsettling. "Can't talk now. Meet me at the usual spot. Bilis."
It was a simple message yet it was filled with a sense of urgency, it left an unsettling feeling in her stomach.
With a sinking feeling in her gut, Mina dashed towards her brother's apartment, her footsteps echoing in the empty corridors. She burst through the door, expecting to find her brother waiting with that mischievous grin of his.
Instead, she was met with silence.
"Kuya?" she called out, her voice echoing off the walls. But there was no response, only the hollow emptiness of the room.
Every trace of his brother was removed in his apartment. It felt like he was never even here.
Fingers trembling, Mina dialed her friend's number, her breath trembling as she waited for him to answer.
"Elijah, it's Mina. Something happened, nandito ako kina kuya."
Within minutes, her friend arrived immediately coming to her side and asking what happened.
"Ano nangyari, Mina?" Elijah asked his brow furrowed with worry.
"Si kuya" she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "He's gone."
