Chapter six: control

Lux's POV:

I walked towards the parking lot, where Regina told me she would wait for me but before I could reach it, someone suddenly grabbed my wrist.

I turned around and saw that it was Janis. Her eyes were wide and her body was slightly trembling.

"I understand that you need time after what happened but it doesn't mean you should spend it with Regina. Please Lux, do not go with her. I told you what she did to me", she said with a hint of desperation in her voice.

I understood that she was hurt. I wouldn't like it either, if I was in her position but I was doing this for my music. Regina gave me multiple opportunities in such a short time. I couldn't just throw that away.

"Janis, I assure you that I'm only doing this because she helped me with my music career. I can't just ignore her after everything she did for me and risk that everything will be thrown away", I explained and her grip around me tightened.

"Don't you see what she is doing? She makes you believe she helps you just to control you so you do whatever she wants. She won't actually help you Lux. She will use you and then she will backstab you", she said.

"I understand your concern. I'm aware of the control she currently has but her party is real. It's a real opportunity she gave me so I can't just turn her down when she wants me to go shopping with her for her party", I explained and she sighed.

"I know I might seem overbearing but I'm doing this to protect you. Remember that", she said and I gently kissed her cheek.

Her body was less tense now and she sighed in relief.

"I will be careful", I said and she hesitantly let go of my wrist.

I could tell that it took everything in her to stop herself from just pulling me away so I wouldn't be able to go with Regina but she managed to stop herself.

I knew she let me go because she was on thin ice with me. I could tell that she wouldn't let me do this no matter what, if everything was how it used to be between us.

"Lux there you are, come on, we have a lot of things to do", Regina suddenly said and grabbed my wrist to drag me away from Janis, who just glared at Regina.

"What did this psycho want from you?", Regina asked while she dragged me to her car.

"She was just worried about me", I said and Regina raised her eyebrow.

"That's how it starts. She starts to act protective and pretends it's for your own good but in the end she just wants you all to herself", she explained and opened the door from the car for me.

I sat down in the passenger seat while Regina sat down on the driver's seat.

"Where are Karen and Gretchen? I thought you wanted to shop with them as well?", I asked and Regina started driving.

"They already went yesterday so it's just you and me but it's not a problem right? I feel like we will have much more fun when we are alone", she said and smirked at me.

I hesitantly smiled back and after a while we arrived at the giant mall.

Regina grabbed my hand when we got out of the car and I gave her a confused look.

"Why are you holding my hand?", I asked and she chuckled.

"The mall is big and full, I just want to make sure I don't lose you", she said and lead me inside.

"Okay first we will get you a dress, I know the perfect shop for that. They have beautiful, high quality dresses", she said and dragged me into a fancy looking clothing shop.
