➵ END OF BEGINNING- DJO
'and when i'm back in Chicago, I feel it. Another version of me, I was in it.'Since Umbridge & Mcgonagall's fight, it felt like Umbridge was taking over Hogwarts. She had been putting up Decrees more and more as the days went on, each one making students hate her even more.
She had even begun inspecting Professors in lessons, as she had been promoted to High Inquisitor. Luckily enough for Rory, she had Snape next and it was his turn to be evaluated.
Rory had been hanging out a lot more with Harry, Ron and Hermione since she fell out with her friends. Since Pansy was with Hermione every other second, Rory and Enzo begun hanging out with Ron and Harry. They truly were brilliant people— and Ron was absolutely hilarious. He had the exact same sense of humour as Rory.
They arrived at Snape's classroom and found a table. Rory sat next to Ron, Enzo and Harry opposite her. Hermione and Pansy had to sit at another table since there wasn't enough room.
Umbridge snuck her way in silently, standing at the back of the potions classroom. Snape had that usual grim look on his face— which for some odd reason, comforted Rory. It was like nothing had changed. When in reality, almost everything had changed.
"Lupin-Diggory, Berkshire, Parkinson move back to your usual seats. You know you don't sit there, don't think of me as a fool." Snape ordered, earning a groan from the trio. Rory's usual seat was beside Mattheo, opposite Pansy and Draco.
She unwillingly picked her bag up and made her way to her seat. Her and Enzo shared a worried look, the awkward silence making them both equally as uneasy. Mattheo and Draco simply stared at Rory and Pansy as they took their seats. Rory shot Pansy a look that said "Help!" because of how awkward it was.
They did the majority of the lesson in silence, Umbridge watching from afar. This was only a theory lesson so she had chosen the wrong time to come and evaluate Snape.
As they wrote down their theory on the Draught of Peace, Umbridge made her way to the front of the classroom, inspecting Snape's desk. "You applied first for the Defence Against the Dark Arts post, is that correct?" she piped up, drawing everyone's attention to her.
"Yes." replied Snape, glumly.
"But you were unsuccessful?" she pouted.
Snape took a moment before responding, the class in utter silence. "Obviously."
Rory almost let her laugh slip out and she covered her mouth with her hand to stop it from escaping. She looked to her right and saw Mattheo doing the same thing. The both of them burst into laughter at the exact same time, their hands flying away from their mouths. It was like old times— laughing with her best friends with Snape prowling behind them. The laughter didn't last long before Umbridge walked out and Snape approached them.
He pulled out a piece of parchment and hit Rory and Mattheo on the back of their heads. "Oi!" Mattheo exclaimed, making her laugh again.
For the rest of the lesson, Rory mostly spoke to Pansy, Mattheo and Draco talked across the table as well. However, Rory occasionally chimed in their conversations and it wasn't too awkward. They didn't say anything to do with their argument so she didn't either.
After the lesson ended, Rory walked into the courtyard alongside Enzo, Pansy, Ron, Harry and Hermione. They were all reminiscing the events of their previous lesson, mostly laughing about Snape being embarrassed like that. "Did you see Mattheo? We both started laughing at the same time and I didn't want it to be awkward so I acted normal." Rory said to nobody in particular as she leant against a stone statue.
