At 10:00 PM, the quiet house suddenly warmed with the sound of joy.
"Granny whele is Momma?" a small voice asked.
"Baby, here I am," Zara responded, bending down to hug her son.
"Momma whele wele you? I missed you," he mumbled sleepily, wrapping his arms around her neck.
"I was just going out to pick your dad, sweetheart."
Ian stepped in, closing the door behind him. "So, how was the surprise, daughter?"
Zara chuckled. "As good as bad, Dad."
"Why bad?"
She looked at Ian, her voice softer now. "You know… when you said he wouldn’t come, I felt lost. But… umm, ahhh—"
He reached over and gently pinched her back, smirking. "Baby, a couple shouldn't expose their everything to everyone."
"Son! Baby! How are you?" Ian’s father greeted.
"Umm well... By the way, Dad, won't you miss me?"
His father stared for a moment, his voice steady and low. "You know how I missed you."
The little one interrupted, climbing into Ian’s arms. "Ale you my Dada?"
Ian smiled, eyes misty. "What do you think, baby?"
"You ale hansom, so you ale my Dada! I saw you in Momma’s mobile! You ale my Dada! Yaa yaa!"
Ian kissed his son’s cheek tenderly. "Awe, my baby."
"Dada, I missed you and Momma too. We love you, Dada," he said, his words melting everyone’s heart.
Ian's eyes welled up. He remembered the bitter days when he couldn't accept his son. Yet now, hearing those words, he couldn’t believe how far they’d come.
"I'm hungly," their son said.
"Yeah, me too," Zara chimed in.
"Me too times three," Ian added, making their son giggle.
"Okay, okay, now come. I made your favourite crostata and her favourite cannoli," Mrs. Williams said with pride.
"Now I can’t wait, let’s go!" Ian said, dragging everyone toward the dining room.
At the table, Ian grinned. "Feed me, Zara."
"Me too!" their son echoed.
Zara rolled her eyes fondly but began feeding both of them, while her mother-in-law silently joined in, gently feeding Zara.
After breakfast, the men played with the child in the living room, his laughter echoing through the house. Meanwhile, Zara and Mrs. Williams worked together in the kitchen.
"Zara, I’m proud of you, baby," Mrs. Williams said, watching her chop vegetables.
"Why, Mom?"
"The way you fed both of them like it’s nothing, yet you’re a working woman. It made me realize nothing is impossible. When I was your age, I gave all my time to work. But now I believe a woman can do it all, if she wants."
"Thank you, Mom," Zara replied, touched.
Lunch Time
"Daddy, I want a baby sister to play with!"
Zara choked on her food, coughing.
Ian blinked, amused. "Why not, baby? As you say."
"But Dad, how baby will come?"
