Eyes

Today has been odd. I feel very cautious of everything I'm doing. I can't seem to focus on anything.
I'm never like this, so on edge. I'm always so calm and collected. I have everything organized, and things are always on time. That just wasn't the case today.
I over slept this morning, that's something I never do. I couldn't help myself though. Last night, I couldn't sleep, not even after taking Advil PM. Something was keeping me awake. It was relentless. I tried closing my windows and curtains, but it didn't do anything. That thing still haunted my thoughts whenever I closed my eyes. I don't even know what it is!
Sleep finally hit me at about 2 this morning. I was suppose to be up 3 1/3 hours later. That changed and I was up at 6. I had no time to do anything. I ended up throwing my hair into a sloppy ponytail, and just fixed my left over makeup from yesterday. Oh!! On top of all of that, I didn't get my morning coffee. As soon as I was up, I was out the door and rushing to work. I just made it on time.
Now, I'm sitting in my office, fighting to stay awake and finish this report for the company. It's due in about 5 minutes and I still have another page and a half to write. My boss will not be happy if I don't finish this. Fearing being fired, I immediately kick into high gear to try and finish.
"Ariella, Mr. Sampson would like to see you now." A voice said. I glance up at my door and see my boss's receptionist poking her raven head in. I give her a small smile in an attempt to hide my lack of sleep.
"Thank you, Jordyn."
I sigh in mild frustration. My report isn't finished, but I need to bring what I have or I'll be in even more trouble. Quickly, I straighten myself out, print the report, and make my way to Mr. Sampson's office.
An hour and a half passes before I leave his office. My feet seem to know exactly where I need to go, and I end up in the break room. The smell of fresh brewed coffee fills the room. Quickly I poor myself a cup and let the caffeine energize me. A smile slowly spreads across my face, but it quickly disappears. I shudder. Somethings not right. Instincts take over and I glance around the room. No one else is here, and the door is shut. The window...?
Inconspicuously, I slowly walk over to the window and look out. Nothing. Just the wind blowing through the trees.
Confusion passes across my face. What am I thinking? That I'm really going to find anything outside? I really need to go back to bed. A yawn escapes me, as I quickly refill my cup. Slowly and sluggishly, I make my way back to my office. There's so much left to do with so little energy. Today's going to be tough.
When I get back, my mail has been delivered to my desk. I pick it up and begin to go through it.
Junk mail.
Junk mail.
Bill.
Junk mail.
Review.
Anonymous letter.
Junk ma-.
Huh? I go back to the strange letter I received. I skim it over. No return address, just my office address. Curiosity gets the best of me and I open the letter.
"Dearest Ariella,
Eyes are the one thing that never change as time passes. It is said that "eyes are the windows to the soul".
These are exceptionally beautiful. Look familiar?
-K"
What's this about? I look into the envelope and notice I missed something. It looks like it could be a picture, I take it out.
Eyes. Emerald green eyes. Wait...those eyes. I drop the photo.
They're mine.
