When Suyeon finally saw Youngtaek again, it was already night. And she was waiting for him in front of her family house, surprising the Messenger whose eyes widen at the sight of her.

"... What are you-"

But then he gets cut off when Hyunjin appears out of nowhere and punches him in the face.

"Hyunjin!" Suyeon shouts as she quickly runs to her friend to stop him, but before she could even reach them, Hyunjin grabs Youngtaek's collar and shouts angrily in his face.

"You promised you'd do your best to protect Suyeon! Just where the hell were you?! You didn't even get an apprentice to watch over her at all?!"

"Hyunjin, what are you doing?! Stop!" Suyeon shouts in response as she grabs Hyunjin's arms, making the angry Messenger turn to her, before his raging expression turns into a frown.

"'S-stop?! He literally left you to be in danger!" he replies with an agitated tone, only for his eyes to suddenly widen when, in the next second, he sees Death's eyes glowing red before he summons his weapon. Hyunjin quickly lets go of him just as Youngtaek sends his bow cutting through the air in between them. And almost immediately, Hyunjin is reminded of where he stands.

Still, his frown remains as Youngtaek glares at him, and Suyeon watches the both of them warily.

"Y-You... You made a deal with her," Hyunjin eventually speaks up with a shaking voice, reminding Youngtaek as the Messenger of Death continues to look at him quietly but intimidatingly.

And then Youngtaek's eyes stop glowing, his bow disappearing shortly after without a word before he would eventually speak with his gaze looking down on Hyunjin. "You were there to protect her eventually though, weren't you?"

Hyunjin's frown deepens again at his words. And he almost speaks again only for Youngtaek to beat him to it.

"I had business to take care of... I was asked for advice over something, but unfortunately I couldn't do much."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Hyunjin asks, before Suyeon places a calming hand on his shoulder.

"Hyunjin..."

In response, Hyunjin turns quiet and looks away, as Youngtaek watches the two friends interact for a moment. It doesn't take long, however, before he decides to drop the news that surely Hyunjin hasn't heard of yet.

"Hyunjin... what do you know of soulless humans?"

A heavy silence suddenly falls on the atmosphere after Death had said that, but after a few seconds, Hyunjin's brows furrow even more again as he looks at Youngtaek in pure disbelief.

"... What?"

"You better not try to do anything like that again. If you do, at least make sure you actually die so I don't have to spend so much on your hospital bills again." The woman's words are harsh and cold with no single drop of sympathy at all as she gingerly picks up the rest of the young woman's belongings in the hospital room.

On the hospital bed, meanwhile, the young woman who had met Misery sat with a blank look on her face, watching her stepmother help her with so much hesitation and still saying cruel words to her.

One would probably say she's already used to such treatment anyway, so much that it doesn't faze her at all. But it would probably still end up a lie. After all, how could she have even ended up in this situation in the first place?
