"Only the dead have seen the end of war," says the boy, contemplating the notion of that quote. A book rests on his side, emanating an incredible power from within its pages. Hands tighten around his iron crowbar, holding it like he was up to bat. "What a load of crap."
His gaze falls on the snarling beast running towards him at high speed. Thick fur covered its body, sharp teeth filled its mouth, and its blank eyes showed a deep hunger. Strings and drops of saliva flew in all directions with each heavy step, adding to the creature's ferocious appearance, which was that of a terrifying wolf. Even more horrifying were the chunks of missing flesh from its torso and face. Sections of its skeleton peeked through the holes. The fur it still held on to was covered in splatters of blood.
The black and red book strapped to his hip began to glow as he readied his strike. "[Physical Enhancement]. [Accelerated Movement]," he said under his breath, causing a dark orange aura to envelop his body. Channeling energy through his palms and into the crowbar, he continued. "[Enhance Durability]. And... [Imbue Silver], for good measure." With that, his weapon glowed while shifting its material until it looked to be made of silver.
The beast was now just meters from him and closing the gap. With no apparent emotions, he waits for his target to line up with his swing.
The beast takes one final lunge at him, aiming to cover the last stretch of distance as fast as possible. Then, the boy takes the swing.
The crowbar flies with remarkable speed, striking the wolf in the head, even forcing its way through like a knife through paper. Chunks of bone and grey matter are sent flying in various directions.
Brainless and limp, the corpse falls to the side.
The boy swings the crowbar again to shake off the remaining blood and flesh. "Fucking werewolves. At least I ran into it alone," he says with a sigh, resting his weapon over his shoulder as he continues down the street. "Anyway..." His thoughts moved toward what he was thinking before the zombified werewolf attack. "The dead were the ones who started this war. Now the living is just forced to participate."
The crumbling city buildings loomed over the boy as the sun rose. He looked back at his kill to see what he already knew. In its place was a man. Or rather, the corpse of a man, rotten and decomposing.
He sighed to himself. "Why'd I have to be summoned to this damn world?"
