Engfa's POV

We've been sitting in the backyard for 10 minutes, and Charlotte's dad still hasn't said anything. I'm starting to think he's just contemplating different ways he can dispose of me without getting caught.

I'm freezing out here. We're seated on the chairs in the backyard, and Charlotte's dad is just staring ahead. I start shivering from the cold, and he turns around, glancing at me for a second before returning his gaze ahead.

"I heard about what you did," he finally speaks up.

"Pardon me?" I reply, not entirely sure what he's referring to.

"Kathy told me about you helping Charlotte with her car, and we obviously heard about the Liam situation," he explains.

I don't know what to say, so I just nod, waiting for him to continue.

"Do you get angry often?" he questions.

"No, sir, I don't. If I'm being honest, I just lose control over situations that involve someone I care about," I reply, hoping it's a sufficient explanation.

"You know, Charlotte is our only child. When we found out what Liam was doing to her, all I wanted to do was get my hands on him," he says, his hands clenching into fists as he speaks.

"My daughter didn't deserve to go through that, and I won't let her go through it again. I promised myself that I would protect her until the day I die. So, what I'm getting at is, are you serious about this?" he asks, his tone serious.

"Mr. Austin, I promise you that I will never lay a finger on Charlotte, and yes, I am serious. She makes me feel so many emotions that I never thought would be possible," I respond earnestly.

He turns towards me again, his expression softer. "David, call me David," he says, offering a small smile.

"You do know that it's not just Charlotte's heart that would be on the line, Olivia is also a part of this. You need to be a thousand percent sure before you take a further step."

"I can't tell you that I love her because that would be a lie, but what I can say is that I want to give her and her beautiful daughter the world," I take a deep breath, feeling the weight of my words. "I can't stop thinking about her. It's like ever since I met her, nothing matters but her."

He doesn't say anything after that, which again makes me nervous. After a few seconds, he gets up and faces me. I quickly stand up as well.

"Take care of them, and if you don't, no one will find your body," he says casually, like he didn't just issue a threat, before patting my shoulder and heading inside.

The moment he's gone, I collapse back onto the chair, letting out a sigh of relief. I really thought I was going to die.

"Are you okay?" I hear Charlotte's voice, and I jump a little, turning to see her coming outside.

"Gosh, you scared me. I almost had a heart attack," I say, relieved to see her.

"How did it go?" she asks, taking a seat next to me.

"Awesome. I think the probability of your dad wanting to kill me went down from 100 to 90," I reply with a grin.

"Oh, stop it. He likes you, I can tell," she reassures me.

"Really? Because I sure can't tell," I reply, causing her to playfully hit me.

I turn around to look at her, taking a moment to admire her beauty. Her dark brown hair falls perfectly on her shoulders, and those hazel eyes captivate me every time.

Since we're alone, I try to grab her hand, but she flinches slightly. It breaks my heart to know the reason.

"Since you said your dad likes me, does that mean you'll go on a date with me?" I break the silence, trying to hide my anxiety.
