Alexander's P.O.V
I was being followed for a while now. Every time I tried to sense who the culprit was, they disappeared. Cain and I had grown close. I could feel how strong his bond had gotten with his wolf. He should have noticed the threat as well. Someone was blocking his senses. I was sure that it was my uncle Mitchell. I hadn't seen the man in eight years. God knows what he wanted from me. I told my parents about my uncle. They chose to stay silent. I decided to wait for my uncle to contact me. I was busy with school. Cain's birthday was approaching as well.
My parents summoned me to their room when I got home on Friday. My father handed me a file and said, "The transaction is complete. We can leave if things don't pan out at the party." My mother sighed and uttered, "We didn't receive an invite, Ivan. Our son has been deceiving the boy. He doesn't need to attend the party. We can't let him make a fool of himself." I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my heart. I clutched my chest and stated, "I think Cain is right, Mom. I can't stop thinking about him lately. It feels like our futures are intertwined."
My father slammed his fist on the nightstand in anger. He scowled and yelled, "Stop acting foolish! You two were never supposed to date. I let this happen because I trust you, but it's enough. Have you forgotten what your uncle told you?" I huffed and replied, "Yes. I chose to ignore it. I don't want his title. I was ten when his family got murdered. And why should I avenge his family? I didn't even know them." My father looked at me in shock. He clutched his hair and said, "Why are you so selfish? You promised Mitch that you would help him. Haven't you been training for that reason? You are the strongest one out of all our children, son. You can't do this now."
My mother patted my back and uttered, "Cain is not your mate, darling." I rubbed my face and yelled, "Why are you all against my relationship? It's like you guys are cursing me. Do you want me to die alone?" My mother tried to hug me. I took a step back and walked out of the room. I needed to clear my head. I grabbed my car key and drove to the park. I parked my car and gazed at the sky. A thousand things were going through my head. I wanted to see Cain. I grabbed my phone and asked him where he was. He was playing basketball with Clifford and some other pack members at school.
I bought some drinks and drove to the location. The game was still on. I decided to wait on a bench for Cain. I wasn't alone at the location. A bunch of girls and guys were at the bleachers. The guy sitting at the corner caught my eye. I had seen him at the local supermarket before. He was a beautiful omega. Anyone would be happy to have him. The guy was looking intently at Cain. I wondered what he wanted. I was startled when Cain kissed my cheek and asked, "Who are you looking at, babe?" I kissed Cain softly and replied, "No one important. Do you want to shower first?" Cain took off his jersey and said, "Yes. It was quite a workout. I'm sweaty all over."
I stroked Cain's head and uttered, "Go. I'll wait for you." Cain smiled and stated, "I'll be right back. Let's spend the night together." I frowned when the omega approached Cain. He was offering Cain a drink. My whole body began trembling. An image of Cain and the omega flashed in my mind suddenly. I couldn't believe what was happening. It was like someone had pierced my heart with a sword. I scanned the location to see if my uncle was around. I couldn't see the man. I mustered the courage and yelled, "Cain, hurry up!" The omega was startled. Cain bid him farewell, then walked into the locker room. I was now sure Cain and I were mates. The pain was too immense for it not to be true. My uncle was interfering in my life. I couldn't let it go on like this.
Cain would get married to the omega if I wasn't careful. Cain shook me when he returned. He kissed my head and asked, "Why does it look like you saw a ghost?" I hugged Cain tightly and said, "Don't ever leave me." Cain rubbed my back and stated, "I will never abandon you, Alex. Not because you are my mate but because I love you. Now let's go." Cain and I drove to the treehouse. We made passionate love together. It was different now that I knew he was my mate. Cain fell asleep on my chest. I dozed off as well. I was startled when I heard my uncle say, "Hello, Alexander."
I pushed Cain off me and grabbed my clothes. My uncle disappeared when I tried to talk to him. I wasn't going to take things lying down. I jumped down from the treehouse and used my powers to summon my uncle. The man appeared on his knees in front of me. I growled and declared, "Leave me alone. I'm not going anywhere with you." My uncle smirked and replied, "You might have forgotten it, but you already made a pact with me. You promised to serve as the protector of all beings for eternity. You can't do that with a mate. Look what happened to my family. They forced my mate to betray me, and now my whole family is dead." I huffed and uttered, "You can't take the words of a child seriously, uncle. Cain is different. He loves me and has a strong will. He won't hurt me. There are many elves around. Go, find someone else to pester."
My uncle laughed and stated, "It's time for me to join my family in the afterlife, Alex. I hope that you will find it in your heart to forgive me for what happens next. You will be free from the curse once you have avenged my family. I left the contract with your parents. They will explain things to you. You will now receive my powers. Close your eyes and let them flow through your veins." I fell on my knees when my uncle grabbed my head. I could suddenly see things. I gazed at the treehouse when I saw that Cain and I were supposed to meet years later. I wondered what made things change. One thing was sure, though. I needed to keep that omega away from my mate. Cain groaned suddenly and called out to me. I quickly went to his aid. I covered Cain with a blanket and said, "I'm here, Cain." Cain hugged my middle and hummed. I vowed not to let anyone take Cain away from me.
