Chapter 1
It was finally summer, the long days I had spent waiting in the classrooms of Miller High were over, junior year done, I was finished with classes and ready for summer. The final bell had just rung, I was still in the shock that always seems to hit me when school is really over. My friend Taylor however was always quick to break me out of my trance.
"Hey Jessica,.. Jessica... Jess, JESS?!"
"Sorry, my bad, What were you saying?" I said as we walked out of the school together.
"Well I was just wondering if you really had to go to your beach house this summer. I mean I know your parents want you too but can't you just say no, tell them you have a social life and that you rather not be the only teenager for TWO AND A HALF MONTHS, Everyone's already planning their parties and I really don't want you to miss out because..."
"TAYLOR" I had to stop her she always gets carried away, and even though she was my best friend she seemed to always get on my nerves all she cared about was popularity, parties and BOYS. "Taylor, we've talked about this, I have to go and besides you will have more fun without me at those parties. You always get frustrated with my lack of enthusiasm. Have fun and choose lots of cuties for me because I know thats your plan.. " I said laughing Taylor was beyond obsessed with boys and she knew it as well as me.
She laughed too, " I know you have to but what about when we go to the beach or the pool or summer babysitting jobs."
The truth was I was going to love not having to endure a summer with Taylor. I loved her but everything was easier if we were apart. "You'll be fine Taylor and you'll just get ALL of the babysitting jobs so you can buy more clothes for more parties and more BOYS." We were both laughing as we reached her car, I got in the passengers side and we began the drive home.
"So.." Taylor said in the way she always does when she's leading into something else. "Can you celebrate your last night home? Because Jason Carter's party is tonight and it's supposed to be really fun."
"Sorry Taylor" I said "I have to pack I leave at eight tomorrow morning and I haven't started packing."
"Whatever" she said smiling " Jess have fun being a loser on the beach all alone. I'm going to miss you" She said it jokingly, she was laughing as she pulled up in front of my house.
"I will miss you too Taylor. Love you, I will call you when I get their tomorrow. Bye, thanks for the ride."
She gave me a hug and waved to my mother who was also pulling up to the house and she was gone, for two and a half months.
