The plane finally landed, and Wei Wuxian sighed with relief. He picked up his suitcase and left the flying machine. As he left the airport, a feeling of nostalgia overcame him.
"One more boat to go, and I'll be home."
Wei Wuxian's plan to rescue Jin Ling had begun. The first thing he had considered was to go to where he'd lived all his childhood in the hope of running into Jiang Cheng, and filling him in on what he knew.
When he arrived on the little island where he'd grown up, a handful of children pounced on him and started asking him tons of questions about what he was doing here, who he was, et cetera... Wei Wuxian didn't hang around too long and went inside. For the first time in a long time, he saw all the people who had taken care of him, those who were closest to his parents. The manager had almost fallen to the floor. It was rare for former orphans to return to see them, and this filled her with happiness. At this emotion, Wei Wuxian felt bad, remembering that nostalgia was just an excuse for coming here.
At the end of the afternoon, he said he'd love to go for a walk alone in the wind. He didn't delay a second and headed for the beach. He nearly fell 5 times, but kept running. When he arrived at the spot where he'd spent so many days, his heart sank. How could he have forgotten such an important time? He felt the tree trunk where he used to sit, looked at the beach where he used to run like a fool, then at the coconut tree where he used to climb to dive into the water. His feelings came to a halt when he felt an oppressive gaze upon him. Then he turned his head and stood speechless.
Jiang Cheng was sitting on a rock, groping it with the tip of his flipper as if waiting for something. Wei Wuxian stared at him, no longer the same person at all. He'd gone from the cute young boy he'd laughed with to a strong, serious man, certainly more mature.
-You haven't changed a bit. You still look like a fool.
His voice brought Wei Wuxian back down to earth. He smiled tenderly.
-I wouldn't have recognized you without your flipper...
The two looked at each other blankly for a few minutes, then Wei Wuxian lowered his head sadly.
-I've known. For Shijie.
Jiang Cheng's eyes widened.
-But how...? Wait, Jin Ling...
Wei Wuxian looked at him tenderly.
-Yes, I know where he is. That's why I'm here.
Jiang Cheng gave a slight cry of distress before advancing as best he could towards Wei Wuxian. Wei Wuxian moved towards him so as not to force him to move. This made him laugh, in a way. Despite his angry side, Jiang Cheng's difficulty in venturing out on land made him look cute.
-Wait, I'm here... Don't worry, he's fine. He's not hurt or anything.
-How did you find him?
-A twist of fate. He was locked up in the place where I work.
Jiang Cheng sighed and sat down again. Wei Wuxian sat down next to him and stared.
-You look even worse than you did 12 years ago.
-And you look just as stupid. Won't your boyish face ever fade?
-Never!
Wei Wuxian began to talk about everything that had happened since he'd left: Wen Ning, college, Wen Chao and routine.
-That Wen Chao... I'll kill him...
-And you won't tell me? He lost his smile. How did Shijie die?
