Heritage Cemetery. I read the letters embedded in gold on the towering black gate.
I have to visit my father because I needed to process his death in order to go on with life because I wanted to heal and spread my wings again.
His death was the one that impacted me the most I didn't know if I could get over it. I loved him and it will be so hard to let go but I needed to, dahil kung hindi ay mahihirapan lang ako habang buhay.
Besides, letting go doesn't mean that you'll forget. For me, letting go is a reward that you can give yourself for being selfless your whole life and releasing things that don't serve you anymore because you deserve to be happy.
And if we say happiness, you should feel it both inside your heart and mind.
The smiles, laughter, and giggles...you should know it within yourself when they were real or fake because even if it looked genuine in the eyes, minsan ay hindi sila totoo dahil pati ang mga mata ngayon ay nakakapag sinungaling na.
I looked around to find his grave but I saw someone else—the person I didn't expect to see here in all the places.
Naglakad ako palapit sa kanya at alam ko na nararamdaman niya ang presence ko but he didn't look.
"What are you doing... here." My voice turned into a whisper when I saw the name of the person he was visiting.
Viviana Patrice Salvatore
1994-20132013... it was the year they stopped visiting us in Virdilla...
Finally, Liam looked up to meet my eyes.
He smiled but it didn't reach his eyes. "She wasn't in Paris."
"I-I thought..." I couldn't take my eyes off the name of his sister engraved on the tombstone.
He shook his head. "Mom isn't over it yet so she told everyone that Ate Patrice was in Paris because she wanted to think that my sister reached her dream to become a fashion designer and to own a boutique there."
I gazed deeply into his eyes but I was drowning so I looked away.
"She died, Sandra. She killed herself in front of everyone... in front of my eyes and... a-and I was scared that you might do the same." He said, and it drove me to return my gaze at him and saw a glint of fear in his eyes.
"What...W-What do you mean? What are you saying?" I stuttered a lot of times but I still managed to finish my question because I needed an answer.
"It was the reason why I couldn't take you to your classroom or even near the building because that is where she j-jumped." His voice cracked and it also tore something inside my chest. "H-Her boyfriend leaked some inappropriate photos of her..."
I inhaled to stop the tears from falling as invisible dots and strings appeared inside my head. "So you knew..."
He shook his head. "I saw it but I didn't know that it was you."
"How did you find out?" I quietly asked.
"Mika." He uttered quietly, and before I could even feel another betrayal, he already explained. "She was so mad when I showed up after my disappearance and I didn't even ask or look for you."
I took a deep breath to prepare and calm myself to the things I'm about to discover because I was sure it'd hurt.
I tried to ask Mika Liam's reason because I had a gut that she might know but she didn't tell me and I now understood why because I should directly hear it from him and not from her.
